5 Ways to Remember Your First Family Holiday

Holidays matter – they’re a chance to take a break from every day life, spend time with the people you love and reconnect with who you are when you aren’t working, cleaning or commuting.

Of course, your first holiday as a family is extra special; whether you’re sunning yourself on the beach, exploring a foreign city or camping in the wild together, here are five ways to preserve those lovely memories.

Print Your Favourite Holiday Snaps

Doubtless you’ll take hundreds (if not thousands of photos) during your holiday. Rather than leaving them sitting on your phone (or worse, deleting them by mistake!), why not print your favourites? Select your funniest, most meaningful or most scenic snaps and turn them into a canvas print with Photobox.

Just imagine how much those pool-side prints of the kids will warm up your walls… bright, vivid and tons of fun, they’ll brighten your home and remind you of quality time together.

Keep a Personal Blog

If you enjoy writing or taking photographs, why not set up a blog? You can add a new post every day, detailing what you all got up to, the best things you saw and experienced, what you enjoyed eating and the names of the best places you visited.

Blogs are a great way of saving your family holiday photos and keeping a hold of the specific details that otherwise fade away with time. Here’s a quick tutorial explaining how to set up a WordPress blog.

Record Some Video Footage

Why not make a mini movie of your holiday? You could use your smartphone to film the kids slow-mo splashing in the sea or record your partner sizzling sausages on the camp fire. Then, cut the video footage up, edit it and add some music over the top.

This kind of medium is a great way to remember your first family holiday together – the sounds and sights you capture on film will prompt memories you might otherwise forget.  Make a scrapbook

Despite all the technology we have at our disposal, sometimes it’s fun to go back to basics and make a scrapbook. All you need is a large notepad, glue and anything you want to remember.

Add photographs, ticket stubs, receipts for a delicious family dinner, wristbands, or even bits of shell, feathers or flowers from the beautiful places you’ve visited. Leave it on the bookshelf and flick through it when you’re feeling nostalgic!

Create a Calendar For Next Year

Ever visited a friend and noticed a personalised calendar on their wall? They’re a great way to remember your first holiday!

You and your family can sit down together after the trip is over and pick your 12 favourite photos – perhaps each child can have their favourite picture placed on their birthday month? It might be lovely to use some sunset views of the beach or sunrise snaps of a cityscape to lend some cheer to winter’s glumness!
