Pre-pandemic, land based casinos were among the most popular tourist attractions in most countries; case in point, before lock down, Australia’s most popular casinos attracted more visitors than the Sydney Opera House!

But post pandemic, land based casinos are facing a threat from technology, and as the world of online casinos brings us virtual experiences all the way from Egypt to Italy, gambling tourism is evolving to a virtual space.

Now, you can start your casino experience from the minute you depart, and choose to play Casino Australia from an airport on the other side of the world, even before you’ve arrived in the country.

But despite being able to play from home, travelers who typically engaged in casino tourism are playing online games while traveling, whether to pass the time through boring airport delays, or back in their hotel room at the end of the day.

Whether you’re playing from Vegas, Macau, or in-flight because WiFi is now offered on the plane, keep these tips in mind for traveling and playing online casino games.

Download The Official App

Yes, you can always use the default internet browser to access an online casino. However many of them have official apps which offer a far better user experience when you’re on the go from your mobile phone.

That said, while mobiles are great for online gambling, tablets are even better. The larger screen of these devices will give you a better gaming experience.

The graphics are better and you’ll feel more immersed in the games. Essentially, the rule of thumb is that the bigger the screen, the more engaging the game will become.

Use Headphones

This tip is about being conscious of others who are sharing the same space. If you’re playing in a public place like from an airport, or in a confined space like a plane, wear a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

Or make sure you silence your device.

You might have an urge to play casino games on the plane, but the three rows in front and behind you are going to get fed up if they keep hearing slots ringing repetitively.

Noise cancelling headphones are well worth the investment.

Once your headphones are on, make sure you don’t get so wrapped up in the game that you start yelling or commentating out loud at your device; the people around you won’t appreciate that either.

Turn Off Your Data

Mobile roaming charges overseas are a killer, and especially if you’re using a data intensive app, or playing a game which eats through your usage, you’re likely to end up with a huge bill once you’re back.

Most monthly phone plans only offer free data in your home country, and once start using your device overseas you’ll start officially “roaming” which is charged at higher fees.

Make sure you switch this off and connect to local internet for your online gaming; you don’t want to have to rely on online pokies to try and pay off your phone bill!

If you’re planning on spending a while in one country, a good way to connect locally is by getting a local or travel SIM card, which will usually come with data. This is by far the cheapest way to maintain data overseas. You’ll have to make sure your phone is unlocked though.

Free WiFi nowadays is offered almost everywhere you go, even in many international city centers, though it is exceptionally important to use a VPN if you’re connecting to insecure networks.

Always Use a VPN

Logging in via free WiFi is a great way to stay connected, and in most cases, cafés and airports do offer free networks where you can play online casino games without worrying about your mobile data.

However this is not safe.

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network which allows you to connect to the internet securely, via an encrypted connection. It masks your IP address so that it is not visible to anyone else in the network.

Why is this important?

Public networks are open networks, and this means that anyone else using it at the same time can, if they know what they’re doing, access your information.

For someone who’s internet savvy, they can see data like your usernames, passwords, and credit card numbers. Criminals have even been known to set up WiFi hotspots specifically to trick people into connecting, so they can hack or infect your device with malware.

Keep A Portable Power Bank Handy

When you’re constantly using your device throughout the day for playing online casino games, your battery will drain out pretty quickly. And especially while you’re traveling, and also using your phone for things like photos, translations, directions, you won’t have much battery life.

If you keep a portable power bank handy you’ll be able to recharge your device even when you’re out and about. And this is not just about being able to continue gaming, but the safety of having your phone for emergencies.

Alertness Is The Key

While gaming can be fun, it’s equally important that you don’t lose yourself to it. After all, remember that you are traveling as well.

Make sure that you pay attention to your personal belongings at all times so you don’t misplace them. Don’t get so lost in your game that you miss your flight announcement and can’t make the gate.

We also recommend that you play in an environment like your hotel room rather than on the streets where you’ll need to be alert and aware of your surroundings – especially when you’re in a foreign place.

And as always, we urge you to gamble responsibly.
