What and Where to Eat When Staying in the Maldives

Vacations bring to mind adventure, fun, and importantly: good food. Travel brochures will give you an idea of where to go when you arrive, but it’s best to get perspective before you arrive. You’ll often find suggestions on arrival are the most expensive. Such lists also lack suggestions on other criteria like the type of food served and the location from where you’re staying.

The Maldives is home to some of the best cuisine in the world and it would take pages to list every choice. Below however, you will find some of the highest-rated places to dine at when visiting.

Type of Food and Special Features

You won’t be stuck for choice on what to eat, as seafood, Thai and Asian are just a few of the many specialties that will be available to you.

For excellent seafood, Sea Fire Salt in Baa Atoll is a must visit for both taste and atmosphere. The restaurant has an underwater room that allows you to look out at marine life as you dine.

Rangali Island is home to the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, another underwater destination that will provide you with a unique experience.

Family or Couple

Who you are travelling with may impact significantly on where you eat. Families will want somewhere enjoyable for all (and that caters for children) like Pizza Mia, whereas couples wanting a romantic night out may want to have a look at the Nest in Niyama.

Fast Food

Not all meals need to be a fine-dining experience. For those times when you simply want a quick meal in the middle of the day or even a dessert to hold you over until the next meal, Hot Bites and Find Bake by Suzy both have you covered.

The Oxygen Cafe strikes a nice balance between fast food and sit-down, giving you a few moments to take a breath among the day’s activities.

Location

Each island has its own special place to dine in. The locals will gladly direct you to the places they most love, but for a special experience on Kuramathi, you cannot miss a stop at the Island Barbeque.

On Niyama, a meal at the Edge will have you wanting to return for at least one more visit before returning home.

Seafood

Convenience

Sometimes you just want someplace where you can get excellent food without wandering too far from your hotel. Many of the hotels have considered this and a quick exploration will have you dining in no time.

For example, the Jumeirah Vittaveli resort is home to the luxurious Swarna restaurant. This will provide you with an exquisite dining experience with no inconvenience.

Maldives Food Scene

Whatever your day brings, a visit to the Maldives will give you so many choices of food you won’t be able to try all the places you want in one visit. There is something for even the most discerning of palates. Although vacations are about a lot more than just food, good cuisine makes the whole experience a bit more enjoyable.

Don’t leave your choices to chance, visit some of the above and you will give yourself yet another memory to carry with you always.
