There is always that one person in your family who is incredibly hard to buy for, however it shouldn’t be the traveler!

A popular Christmas gift for travelers is a one year subscription to the National Geographic, however at a young age I would always flip through the beautiful pictures and promise myself I would read the articles later.  The magazines have been collecting dust on the bookshelf for years.

So this year, instead of a one year subscription to the magazine, how about every issue of National Geographic since 1888 on one convenient hard drive?! Well 1888 – 2009 anyway.

One of the world’s most iconic magazine’s, this Christmas gift is sure to please any traveler.  Over 1,400 issues, 200,000 photos and 8,000 articles, there’s nothing better for staying occupied on long train rides or flights!  In fact, there’s nothing better for staying occupied…period!

The hard drive is genuinely amazing.  Every issue has been reproduced in high resolution.  The articles are captivating, the photographs beautiful, and maps fascinating.  The hard drive is compact and small, and the interface and navigation is incredibly simple. Not only can you search year and issue, but also by keyword.

It’s an invaluable resource for parents for school projects, and it’s been an invaluable resource for inspiration and information for articles on my site! There are also additional features such as a Trivia game, bookmarking, reading lists and print capability.

The archive has been available on DVD now for some time, however the beauty of this hard drive is that it eliminates any disk swapping.

The Complete National Geographic on 160 GB Hard Drive is $199.95, however browse online auction sites before your purchase.  The cost of our hard drive? $25 off ebay from someone who either didn’t know the value of it or didn’t care!  We were more than happy to take it off their hands!!

  1. I NEED this! I should nonchalantly send this to family members. :)

    • Lol like leaving the magazine randomly out on the coffee table with items circled in red :D

  2. This is AWESOME!! You’re right – great for long plane rides! I don’t have TV or anything where I live in the jungle, and the internet is pretty garbage sometimes, so I would love something like this to keep me entertained.

    • This could keep you entertained for years in the jungle!!! Seriously there are so many issues!! Happy Holidays!

  3. Had a chuckle – we are subscribers of this and the Traveller one & we too do lots of browsing through the pictures first with the intention to go back. Usually months later. This is a great idea, getting it on a hard drive :).

    • I think we’re still actually subscribed to a few different mags – with the idea of getting inspiration for my blog lol but they still sit on the shelf under our coffee table!

  4. Great idea!

May need to look into this for our 12 month worldly adventure in June…

    • Definitely! It’s the first thing we packed for our upcoming trip! Has a VIP spot in our luggage lol

  5. Wow! I had no idea this existed but how cool and what a deal for you. I was one of those people who looked at every issue of National Geographic I could find but only the photos. I’m now in my early 30s and still haven’t really gone back to read the articles, oops!

    • I think the photos are the best part too :D So glad we could introduce you to the electronic set Cat – definitely something really cool to have on hand if you ever find yourself with some spare time on your hands…or for that long international flight :)

      Happy holidays!
