Hipmunk City Love: What to Pack for a Trip to San Antonio, Texas

Just because everything is supposed to be bigger in Texas, doesn’t mean that your baggage should be too. Sure, San Antonio is a sprawling tourist town packed with attractions, historical hotels and chock full of culture, shopping, food and entertainment, though this doesn’t mean that you can’t pack your bags with space to spare.

The following are packing tips for your upcoming trip to San Antonio.  This is your guide to packing lightly, and enjoying your trip with room for plenty of Texas souvenirs to bring home and share.

Clothing

The first thing you need to know about San Antonio, is that the sun is shining 300 days out of the year, and as such, your clothing should be weather appropriate. Lightweight, breathable clothes which are comfortable and good in hot weather are the best, and materials like cotton or linen will help you stay cool.

Make sure your clothes are weather appropriate.

San Antonio is a warm city even on the 65 days of the years when the sun isn’t out. With mild winters and incredibly hot summers, you’ll want to pack shorts no matter which time of the year. A bathing suit is also a great idea whether you’re planning on enjoying the abundance of water-sports, water parks, or simply planning on a dip in the rooftop pool of your cheap San Antonio hotel.

Shoes

A trip to San Antonio means a lot of walking. There is an eight-mile Mission Trail which is popular among tourists, and between this and exploring the Alamo, or even if you’re planning to shop until you drop at some of Texas’ biggest malls, you’ll find yourself walking most of the time.

Pack a pair of sneakers or shoes which are comfortable for walking, and consider some sandals or flip-flops if hitting the water-parks too.

Technology

San Antonio is packed with tourist attractions across many different districts, so packing your camera is a must. It would be a shame to forget about the Spanish-colonial missions you encountered during your trip, or the memories from your bike ride along the RiverWalk.

Extras

A tourist map which lays out the various districts throughout the city is a fabulous thing to have on hand – San Antonio is an easy city to explore on foot, so a map is often a handy tool.

Sunblock and a hat are your best defense against the blazing Texas sun – while other toiletries are readily available in shops once you arrive, these are two extras which you should definitely not travel without.

The majority of the city’s tourist attractions are outside, so there’s no escaping that sun. For this reason too, remember to pack your sunglasses/shades. A reusable water bottle is also a great idea for re-fills as you are exploring the streets.

Packing for a Trip to San Antonio

Packing for your trip to San Antonio doesn’t have to be a difficult affair. Your main consideration should be the weather and the season, and packing plenty of protection from the sun.

Follow the above tips and you’ll be fine – enjoy your trip to San Antonio!
