Do you have an instant pot? They’re like magic, right? You put ingredients in, head to work, and eight hours later this amazing meal emerges.

Accessories are the instant pot of the fashion world. They can transform ensembles without a ton of time, effort, and often even money. Which is exactly what the savvy traveler needs.

Although comfort is top of the list, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look stylish too whether you’re heading off to the wilds of Africa, or urban exploration in chic New York.

With this in mind, check out these tips on keeping your style on point, whilst travelling this season. Read on for eight accessories you need.

8 Accessories Which Will Transform Your Travel Style

A Proper Watch

Consider a proper watch as one of your most important travel accessories (and make sure it’s easy to adjust as you’re jumping across time-zones).

Opportunities to charge your cell phone when you’re traveling remotely can be few and far between, but even when you’re traveling through cities, you tend to use more battery, whether you’re snapchatting you’re day, or using the GPS to find your way. A dead cell phone means you’ll need to rely on a proper watch to keep the time.

A watch is not only a professional accessory, but it’s also functional and fashionable. Pick something that is at the height of fashion right now, like one of these MVMT rose gold watches; it’ll be a conversation piece just as much as a time piece.

Booties

Almost all women wait for the first hint of fall so they can don their favorite knee-high boots. We love them with our jeans and/or leggings and a long sweater, as it somehow resonates with a need to walk through Central Park holding a pumpkin spiced latte.

But please don’t forget the ankle boot (booties), as these are a fun and trendy take on a classic kick. Not only do they look stylish whatever they are paired with – which means you don’t need to worry about packing too many shoes – they’re pretty comfy and warm too.

Throw Some Shade

Sunglasses can be filed under classic accessories, as they keep our eyes safe and are never really going to go away. Even if you’re traveling on a winter getaway, you should travel with proper eye protection snow blindness is a thing (sunburn of the eyes) and it’s painful!

However, if you think shades are just about safety, you’re missing out on the many ways that sunglasses can make an outfit. If you prefer to buy expensive sunglasses, you likely can’t afford to get a pair for every ensemble. What you can do is mix and match your shade collection by including some pricey pairs and others that are more affordable.

From cat eye sunglasses and aviators, to Jackie O’s and wayfarers, sunglasses put the “fun” in functional.

Meaningful Jewelry

You shouldn’t bling yourself out when you’re traveling, as you don’t want to stand out and make yourself a target for thieves. But if you get a piece of meaningful jewelry, that’s subtle, and looks great with everything, this can make an outfit complete.

Whether it’s a locket that holds a photo of someone you love (helps with homesickness overseas), a lotus bracelet, or a tiered necklace that was simply given to you by someone who has made an impact on your life, this piece of jewelry could hold the power to change your mood.

And travelling can be hard work; waiting around, dragging heavy suitcases, keeping hold of your crazy mate who wants to get the party started at 5am at the airport, so you might actually find it comforting to have something which lifts your mood.

Something About Scarves

A scarf can take an outfit from drab to fab in zero seconds flat. They can double up as a blanket to keep you warm on cool plane journeys, and they’re super light to pack.

In the “go big or go home” category, scarf sweaters are both wonderful and warm. For those who are challenged when it comes to styling scarves, eternity scarves come in very handy.

Also, men—please do not be afraid of this accessory, as there is nothing sexier than a man that can pull off a scarf!!

Go for a Cross-body Handbag, Purse, or Wallet

These are oh-so-haute right now, and good for safety to boot. No burglar’s going to manage to snatch that when you’re navigating a crowded street.

Be forewarned, though, these bags are tiny so if you need to carry a lot of things with you when you’re out exploring each day, these may not be for you.

Vive le Vest

Long live the vest, as this trend just keeps reinventing itself. Whether it’s a fitted vest that you allows you to don a beaded tank underneath, or a fuzzy vest that you can wear over skinny jeans or a slip dress, these offer a great way to let your personality shine through in what you’re wearing.

  1. Perfect timing, I’ve been accessing my rather sad looking wardrobe lately and realized that it’s time for some revamping. Thanks for the inspirational suggestions! And Viva le Vest indeed, I love em!

    • Glad we could set you up with some suggestions for revamping your travel wardrobe :) Happy travels!

  2. I don’t wear a watch, but I am fully into the power of a good ankle boot! I love them because they are good for day and evening wear, meaning that I can pack super light and still look stylish! Sunglasses are also a must for me but I do tend to lose them.

    • Can’t beat the ankle boot! I have so many pairs :D Yes, they’re so great for packing light, and wearing with a range of different outfits. If you’re prone to losing your shades you an get some amazing cheap pairs under $15 which is probably the best way to go. That way you’re not breaking the bank every time you have to replace them :D

  3. These are really good tips for being stylish while on the road. We are leaving the warm, easy breezy climes of Southeast Asia soon and heading to Europe this summer. I will definitely need to update my wardrobe, and accessories seem like a smart way to be more chic, that doesn’t take up much space. Thanks for the ideas!

    • Thanks Jen! Ah, yes, it can be tough jumping from one season to the other, but accessories like scarves, hats and sunnies are great for cheaply updating your wardrobe to fit into a new climate / scene.

Hope you have an amazing time in Europe!

  4. There was a time when i was crazy about watch and jewelry but over the years due to consistent traveling, I have been trying to get rid of the extra stuff. So, I have stopped wearing those. But sunglasses, scarves, and boots still remain my favourite. They always add a dash of style to my travels.

    • Ultimately it’s all about falling into your own personal style and figuring out what works for you – sounds like you’re on top of it! Happy travels :)
