DoubleTree hotels have been on my radar for a while now.  After having won the DTour of a Lifetime competition I’ve been itching to stay at a DoubleTree property.  Not only to bite into one of those amazing warm chocolate chip cookies handed to every guest on check-in, but to find out what to expect from the brand in South and Central America next year.

Well, DoubleTree didn’t disappoint.  And neither did the cookies!

A more affordable chain of Hilton Hotels, but with all of the same amenities and luxuries as the original chain, DoubleTree exceeded our expectations in terms of value and service.  We took the opportunity to stay with them while in Savannah; their property located right in the heart of the Historic District.  But the amazing location was just the start of what was a phenomenal hotel experience.

First impressions are lasting – and our first impression of the hotel was how friendly and accommodating the staff were.  Having never had our car valet parked before we weren’t quite as organized as we could have been, however they patiently waited while we unpacked, repacked and unloaded the car.

Too many bags – next time we’ll pack light!

Seeing that we had our bikes in the back, the valet offered to park the car in one of the very limited outdoor parking spots.  We were extremely appreciative as this allowed for continual access without the need to have the hotel fetch the car every time we wanted our bikes.

Smiling staff met us on check-in, however nothing could compare to the grin which we couldn’t shake on walking into our overly spacious, beautifully decorated hotel room with views over the historic harbor and a whirlpool.  The one mistake the check-in staff made was telling me I could request more cookies from the front desk at any point during my stay.  I was tempted to see how far I could take this before being cut off from the cookie jar!!

Having worked in hotels for a number of years I know that you can judge a hotel on its cleanliness by the state of the whirlpool (spa).  It was so white it was almost shining…and most relaxing after a long afternoon exploring Savannah by foot…which nearly didn’t happen after I realized how comfortable the four poster bed was!

Our room.  You can’t beat a good 4 poster bed!

I’m impressed by how the hotel made us feel instantly at home.  Everything we needed was provided; a work desk with complimentary internet access (a huge selling point for me is complimentary internet access), unique furniture which gave the room character, and comfortable, clean facilities.  They really understand that the little things all add up to a great hotel experience.

Our stay at the hotel in Savannah now has me even more excited for what’s in store for my DTour.  I’ll never say no to that kind of luxury, and I’ll never say no to freshly baked chocolate chip cookies!

We were guests of DoubleTree by Hilton.  In no way were my opinions shaped by the comfortable bed, luxurious rooms, amazing hotel staff or freshly baked chocolate chip cookies!
