Four Fantastic Places to Visit in Edmonton, Alberta

Located in a picturesque spot along the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton is the vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of Alberta.

Lively, crowded, and with a rich history behind it, it’s a place that has something for everyone, from the inimitable Ford Edmonton Park all the way through to gorgeous public gardens and picture-perfect parks.

Planning on spending some time there? Here are just four of the fantastic places you should add to your itinerary.

Muttart Conservatory

Muttart Conservatory

A unique and innovative botanical garden, Muttart Conservatory is spread out across four striking glass pyramids.

With three of these representing biomes from across the globe, and the fourth dedicated to housing creative exhibitions and displays, it offers plenty to see and do, especially for those with an interest in the natural world.

Home to one of the largest collections of its kind in Canada, this amazing museum is committed to sharing, inspiring, and educating the public on the wonders of plant life, and it does this in the most interesting and enjoyable of ways.

Pay it a visit to see its special collections up close, and come away with a newfound love of the beauty around us.

Fort Edmonton Park

Fort Edmonton Park

Spread across 158 acres, Fort Edmonton Park is the most beautiful of locations, and it also happens to be the largest living history museum in the entirety of Canada.

Taking its name from one of the first and most enduring European outposts in the area, it’s made up of four fascinating sections charting different eras throughout its history: the fort of 1846, and three intricately outfitted streets, one from 1885, one from 1905, and one from 1920.

These can be explored in a variety of ways, from horse-drawn carriage rides all the way through to a journey on a fully functional steam train, but the result is always the same – an absolutely amazing day out.

River Cree Resort and Casino

If you want something a little more adult and exciting, we recommend adding a visit to River Cree Resort and Casino to your list.

The biggest and best casino in the Edmonton area, this fabulous entertainment complex offers everything from great dining through to high stakes gaming that will have you on the edge of your seat.

If you want to get some practice in beforehand, you can always give online gaming a go, and there are lots of great options out there if you’d like to win some dollars without breaking the bank – full details are available here.

You might even get lucky and win some spending money to add to your holiday fund.

Elk Island National Park

Bison

Last but not least, be sure to pay a visit to Elk Island National Park whilst you’re in Edmonton. Spanning 75 square miles, it’s the largest fully enclosed park in the country, and it has plenty for you to discover.

Home to a variety of diverse habitats and ecosystems, from northern prairies to boreal forests, aspen woods, and swaying grasslands, it’s also a wildlife haven.

Be sure to keep an eye out for both wood bison and the tiny pygmy shrew it’s home to, whilst also making the most of the gorgeous hiking trails and picturesque scenery.
