There are many advantages to using this decentralized digital currency as a way to pay for travel and as more and more airlines, hotel brands, and other travel-related companies join in on the acceptance, using Bitcoin may quickly become the go-to form of payment for travelers.

The industry is at the forefront when it comes to accepting cryptocurrency and more and more travelers are purchasing Bitcoin to pay for their travel.

Here are just some of the current airlines and travel booking websites where you can use your Bitcoin to get traveling once again.

Airlines that Accept Bitcoin

Air Baltic

Let’s start the list with the world’s first commercial airline to accept Bitcoin payments back in 2014.

The Latvian airBaltic airline is regarded by many as one of the top 10 most innovative airlines, now accepting Bitcoin for passengers traveling to around 60 destinations throughout Europe, Russia, Eurasia’s Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Middle East.

The airline’s fleet consists of the Airbus A220-300, which many regard as one of the world’s greenest commercial aircraft.

Flights connect most of the Baltic States capitals including Riga, Tallinn, and my personal favorite Vilnius in Lithuania which recently released its famous and quite funny advertising campaign in which they refer to themselves as the G-spot of Europe.

“Nobody knows where it is but when you find it — it’s amazing” states the campaign.

You currently can use Bitcoin to purchase their GREEN and GREEN Plus flight tickets as long as they are booked at least five days ahead of the scheduled departure date.

The company uses BitPay to process the transaction, converting your Bitcoin into Euros to finalize the payment. You can also customize your ticket to include only the services you wish to pay for.

Peach Aviation

Peach Aviation is Japan’s largest budget airline and is said to have been the first in the country to begin accepting Bitcoin for flights.

The airline is said to have partnered with Bitpoint Japan, a Japanese cryptocurrency exchange, in order to offer the service. After viewing the website, the company states that payments can be made with the following electronic currency: Alipay, PayPay, Line Pay, and WeChat Pay.

The airline currently serves Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Seoul, Taipei, Bangkok, and more.

LOT Polish Airlines

LOT Polish Airlines may be one of the world’s oldest airlines still in operation, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t know how to stay current with the times. It was one of the first airlines to begin accepting Bitcoin for flights purchased via the company’s website and mobile app.

When purchasing airline tickets, the price is calculated in the currency you choose and then converted into Bitcoin upon being redirected to your digital wallet to finalize the payment. Glancing at LOT’s website, payment options include QIWI Wallet, Alipay, Google Pay, iDeal, and Giropay.

A member of Star Alliance, LOT flies to over 120 destinations throughout Europe, North America, and Asia, offering up the Miles & More frequent-flyer program that earns points with both LOT flights and flights with Star Alliance partners.

Surf Air & PrivateFly

Sick of flying commercial? A number of private and semi-private jet companies are also beginning to accept Bitcoin for flights.

Surf Air in California doesn’t own or operate aircraft of its own but instead works with third party FAA-licensed and DOT-registered air carriers to provide travelers who sign up for their membership program unlimited flights up and down America’s West Coast.

You get to fly in a private aircraft without private jet pricing, choosing from scheduled flight times where no more than seven other Surf Air members will accompany you on the flight if they happen to book the same scheduled flight.

PrivateFly on the other hand is a private jet charter flight booking service that was the first global private jet company to accept Bitcoin as payment.

The company operates in almost 20 countries including the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, and France. The company states that nearly 20% of their annual revenue comes from passengers booking bitcoin-paid flights.

You can use Bitcoin to book on-demand private jet flights and pay for PrivateFly’s various membership options. They also offer a special Bitcoin Jet Account that allows you to place your Bitcoin into an account whereby booked flights are charged against your account balance.

Virgin Galactic

The world’s first commercial spaceline also accepts Bitcoin if you happen to have an extra quarter of a million dollars or roughly five and a half Bitcoin’s lying around collecting digital dust.

Sir Richard Branson was an early Bitcoin investor himself, so it should come as no surprise he allows passengers flying on his SpaceShipTwo to pay with the cryptocurrency.

Although Bitcoin won’t quite get you to the moon and back with Virgin Galactic, you will enjoy a sub-orbital spaceflight that can carry up to six astronauts.

Travel Sites Accepting Bitcoin for Airline Tickets and More

Travala.com

Travala is one of the top cryptocurrency-friendly travel websites around, many travelers claiming it to be the world’s leading blockchain-based travel booking platform.

They accept several different cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin included. You can book your flight through Travala and then set up a home rental or hotel accommodation for your stay.

The search feature is stripped-down compared to some of the other websites on this list, but it’s still efficient. It also appears Travala is in the process of adding an attraction and activity search to their list of possible bookings.

Customers can earn rewards toward future bookings when booking through Travala.com. Plus, the company backs up its offerings with the best price guarantee and customer support available around the clock.

Travala has also recently partnered with Expedia which now allows customers the ability to choose from more than 700,000 hotels and pay for their rooms with Bitcoin.

Cheapair.com

Cheapair

Cheapair claims to be the first travel agency in the world to accept Bitcoin when it did so back in 2013. They specialize in scouring the internet for inexpensive vehicle rentals and hotel bookings in addition to airfare as their name implies.

Your Bitcoin information is all you need to book, with no additional credit card information required. The search is customizable for several criteria to allow users the ability to narrow down their searches.

Flights, hotels, and vehicles all have dedicated search pages, so you do not waste time checking or unchecking options not relevant to the services you want.

Bitcoin.Travel

Did you know Bitcoin itself has a website dedicated to helping clients book travel? Many travelers say it’s one of the easiest ways to plan, book, and pay for travel using Bitcoin.

Bitcoin runs the website, so you can be assured their comprehensive list of flights, hotels, and vacation rentals all accept the cryptocurrency. And they kept user experience in mind when designing the site.

Flights, hotels, and more can be searched for under several criteria, including but not limited to dates, destinations, price, times, and specific airports. You can even compare and contrast the price and amenities offered by different companies to find the best fit.

Bitcoin.Travel has been featured in The New York Times, Travel + Leisure, and Forbes, the latter of which stated that the website offered the most comprehensive list of travel-related businesses that accept bitcoin.

Alternative Airlines

Alternative Airlines

A website that specializes in finding the best flights available using Bitcoin, Alternative Airlines has focused all their effort into being the best airfare booking agency possible. Customers can search for one way, round trip, and multiple stop flights with 650 different airlines using several criteria to narrow their search.

After learning about Alternative Airlines, it may seem like a lot of airlines accept Bitcoin. In truth, most airlines still do not directly accept Bitcoin payments, which is why websites like Alternative Airlines are so beneficial to travelers who favor paying in cryptocurrencies.

They can provide Bitcoin purchased tickets from airlines that do not accept direct Bitcoin payments, broadening their customers’ options in the process.

Currently, the company allows customers the ability to choose from over 160 different currencies using more than 25 different payment methods. Alternative Airlines also offers protections some other companies do not, such as cancellation protection and a customer service team available to provide help anytime.

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are continuing to grow more popular every year as our world becomes more connected and digital technology firms its grip on us.

Take advantage of Bitcoin’s many benefits for world travel by booking your next trip through one of these fantastic websites mentioned.
