Niagara doesn’t even come close, and Victoria Falls are quickly forgotten.

Both low and high level walkways thread their way deep into the subtropical rainforest as the thunderous sound of water crashes to the ground, 296 feet from above. Unforgettable panoramic views of more than 270 falls; cliffs and islands scattered in the shape of a horseshoe, and a fragile ecosystem home to some of the world’s most colorful and exotic birds.

I’ve just described Iguazu Falls.

Iguazu Falls

Undoubtedly one of the most naturally spectacular sights in the world, Iguazu Falls is an imposing collection of waterfalls which straddles Brazil and northern Argentina.

The falls at Iguazu are 1.7 miles long, and 30% taller than Niagara, made up of many cascades producing vast sprays of water flowing at up to 450,000 cubic feet (12,750 cubic m) per second.

Words cannot describe the experience of witnessing Iguazu Falls. Magnificent, spectacular, mesmerizing, immense; these all come close, though nothing will prepare you for the unbelievable experience itself.

Nothing I can say will prepare you for what it’s like soaking up the spray of one of the world’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders. You have to be there to truly appreciate it.

Visitors to the falls can view them via boat, boardwalk or helicopter, and with hundreds of falls there are literally thousands of spectacular views.

Here are just 15; hopefully they’re inspiring enough to get you on a plane!

  1. Hi Meg,

Beautiful, and although the falls are stunning I dig the bird pictures just as much. I grew up in a parrot crazy household. We had 6 big parrots at one point so the shots above really vibe with me. The toucan snap is awesome; I recall seeing one from a distance in Monteverde, Costa Rica. What an experience. Even from far away, where we had a tough time spotting him with binoculars, it remains one of my more thrilling travel experience.

I’m totally new to Iguazo Falls but they’ve been added to the list and I’ll enter the contest. Definitely worthy of a RT here. Thanks Meg. Signing off from Fiji.

    • Thanks Ryan! So glad you enjoyed the post and the photos.

So cool that you grew up around so many birds! I love them to bits! Bird watching is a super hobby of ours, and when we get to travel places like South America it’s a thrill to be around so many different exotic species! Toucan is my favorite of course :D

Hope you’re still having an amazing time in Fiji!!

      Meg xx

  6. But, but, but I’m not a US resident and you’re showing this to ME?! I’m joking- but I’m still envious… such a beautiful place. I am a touch obsessed with waterfalls, too! My favourite so far has to be Gulfoss in Iceland :)

    • Gulfoss was one of our favorites in Iceland as well – so many amazing mystical falls in the one country there; loved it!! Will keep my eye out for comps open to everyone outside of the US as well!

  7. Argh, another contest not open to Canadians! Don’t worry, this happens all the time. :) I would LOVE to go there sometime, it’s been on my list for quite a while as I’m a big lover of waterfalls and this is like…the most epic of waterfalls! Good luck to everyone who enters! :)

    Great shots.

Its been 20 years since I’ve been there but I know that being there is the most amazing place…the sound of the water, the heat and freshness of the air.

I must go back. Thanks for the reminder
