The Coin Collector Chick : Sharing Facts About Coins from Around the World

In addition to being a full time traveler and travel blogger, I have also become known as the Coin Collector Chick. While I don’t generally collect many souvenirs during my travels around the world, I have always been interested in collecting coins from the various countries I have visited.

What started out as a small collection of coins has now blossomed to well over a thousand different coins from nearly 200 countries, some of the countries no longer in existence or had their name changed. In addition to the current circulating coins I often pick up as leftover change while traveling, I have also become fascinated with collecting historical coins. Each coin contains a great deal of symbolism about a country and they can often teach you a lot about the history of a nation, its past leaders, and its people and culture.

I thought I would start this page to help other travelers and coin collectors learn about the lesser known interesting facts and history of coins from around the world. Many coin collecting websites offer plenty of technical aspects and specs of individual coins but they don’t always dive deeper into the history of each coin to tell you more about the symbols, the famous faces, or the leaders and monarchs that each coin features.

There are hundreds of thousands of different coin varieties that have been issued by countries over the centuries, making it difficult to discuss them all in detail. Therefore, I have chosen to focus on some of my favorite new and historic coins from as many countries as possible and  share the many secrets behind them. My hope is to get others interested in coins and the fascinating stories they have to tell.

Coin Collector Chick is a series which brings the history and stories of circulated coins to life, from the perspective of a female coin collector. As an avid collector who has visited 100 + countries, I’ve picked up some fascinating coins on my journeys, and am on a mission to prove that coin collecting is fun for everyone.

Each and every coin has a fascinating and interesting history,  from the 1849 Godless Florin which sparked outrage across Britain, to early Elizabethan England where coins were were deliberately bent in the shape of an S to form a love token My goal with this series is to bring the intriguing history of these coins alive.

By clicking on the Search Coins, you’ll find information and photographs from coins around the world. Learn about the historical events that were happening at the time the coins were issued and circulated between the hands of various peoples and cultures around the world.

They ruled Oran for the next 200 years before the Ottoman Empire took control of the city for a short time. Spain regained power in...

Belarus Coins : 2 Roubles or Rubles 2009

Up until this coin’s release, Belarus was one of the few countries in the world that had never issued coins. While the coin’s date may read 2009, it interestingly wasn’t released into circulation until 2016, roughly 8 years after they were initially minted!
