One of the world’s leading luxury hotel brands, the Hyatt is an excellent place to spend your vacation, honeymoon, or business trip.

For those who don’t know the name, they have a string of high-class properties located in various parts of the world, and are a highly trusted brand. For those who are familiar with the name, chances are that you know that spending a night or two at a Hyatt property doesn’t come cheaply.

But despite the expense of most Hyatt hotels, we do have a couple of tricks up our sleeve for booking rooms at a discount.

Ways to Pay Less for Your Stay at the Hyatt

Join the Hyatt Rewards Program

Like any large international hotel chain, Hyatt has a rewards program which allows you to earn points for every stay, and a credit card which allows you to earn points on your everyday purchases. And you can use the points you accumulate to pay for a stay.

Sometimes, you may lack the total number of required points to get a room. Alternatively, you may be a few dollars less. But just like airlines, Hyatt offers the option of paying with a combination of points and cash.

Hyatt points are also the best way to reach their elite status, and access extra benefits that a regular visitor would not usually get. For instance, elite status perks often include free nights, room upgrades, hotel savings, free parking, and free internet.

Buying Points

But Hyatt is also happy sell points to anyone willing to buy. Strategically purchasing Hyatt points can be a great way to score a discount on a stay; especially in luxury Hyatt brand properties.

As you buy Hyatt points, make sure you do the math on the dollar – points value. It is also wise to plan your timing, as the conversion rates often change, and depending on when you buy you may be eligible for a bonus.

For instance, individuals who purchase points between 5000 – 9000 points often receive extra 30% discount points. Then, if you are buying more than 10,000 points, you earn an additional 40% bonus points.

Apply for the Hyatt Credit Card

The Hyatt credit card not only makes it easier to earn more Bonus Points that can be redeemed for free nights, it also treats you to an award just for being a card member.

Hyatt card members are entitled to one free night every year in a standard room at any Category 1-4 hotel or resort. With over 600 hotels and resorts to choose from, 85% of which are Category 1-4, you can celebrate in a new destination each year.

Check the Hyatt Calendar

If you want to book your room using points, it’s important to keep in mind that tpoints bookings are dependent upon availability, and you have to book within a specified timeframe.

For instance, if you try to book with points at the last minute, you might find that they decline your transaction. Additionally, the points + cash option is not available at all hotels at the same time, so it’s important to check the Hyatt calendar to see where and when points are available for your destination.

Follow them on Social Media

Hyatt offers great discounts throughout the year, and a great way of staying on top of these is to follow their social media accounts, and subscribe to their newsletter.

You’ll be the first to hear about deals, competitions, and giveaways they’re running, and be able to take advantage of flash sales you might have otherwise not heard about.

  1. Hotels are using social intelligently Meg. Better than most travel bloggers LOL. Goading customers with deals, discounts and time sensitive offers keeps folks tuned into social accounts, boosting follower counts and engagement. Most hotels – at least reputable ones – have solid social media customer service too.

    • Lol I agree with you! It’s so true – when I log into my social media accounts each morning I now have a routine where I jump over to check the latest feeds from my airlines and fav hotel chains. They’re always posting about latest deals and specials – and absolutely, I’ve used the social media support team a number of times, and they’re always the most responsive. It’s incredible how companies have utilized their social presence to connect with customers and assist with resolutions.

  2. Seriously? Applying fr a credit card purely to obtain discounts on a hotel could well be the most irresponsible financial advice I’ve ever heard.

    • Not at all. If you’re responsible with your finances there’s no reason you can’t take advantage of benefits and bonuses which come with credit cards. If you’re not responsible with your finances it’s likely that your application won’t be approved.

  3. I had no idea you could actually buy points – what a great idea! Good tip on doing math on the dollar though, that’s probably a clever way they can make money a lot of the time, if points are more expensive than dollars but people make assumptions otherwise.

    • Absolutely, yes it’s always important to make sure your investment checks out first :)

  4. I tried to book at the Hyatt this year … apparently though the minimum age to reserve a room is 21. I’m 19 so they wouldn’t let me make a booking :(

    • Sorry to hear that Rebeca – it could be a hotel specific policy, so if you’re traveling over the next two years I would still check with different Hyatts in the destination you’re going to :)

  5. Another tip – depending on the hotel, some may offer corporate rates, which are $10 – $30 lower than regular leisure rates. Ask if they have corporate rates when you make a phone reservation – doesn’t always works, but sometimes it’s a win!

    • Great insight Chantel, thanks for sharing!

  6. We have the Hyatt Credit Card from Chase, we recently used our free night certificate for the Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa – WHAT an amazing property.

    • Awesome Evangeline! I haven’t made it to the Park Hyatt Goa Resort & Spa yet, will have to add it to my properties to watch list :D

  7. Shame that renewal certificates are only valid at category 1-4 properties.

    • Would be lovely if there was no category limit to that right!

  8. Would LOVE to stay at the Hyatt one day.

    • Definitely worth the splurge :)

  9. I read your review on Grand Hyatt Bali, and we’re booked for September – thanks for these tips!

    • Awesome Levi! So glad the review was helpful for you – have a fabulous trip, Bali is such an incredible property :)

  10. How do I get 20 nights at Hyatt preperty( mattress run) by February 28 2023 to make globalist status?
