Historic, charming, and truly enchanting, the Inn on the Alameda is a gem which shines brightly against the arid mountain-desert of the Southwest. Artistic, symbolic and truly lavish, the Inn is a treat for those wishing to visit a city where Native American culture abounds.

Nestled behind adobe walls, only steps from the heart of old Santa Fe, the Inn on the Alameda is a unique four and a half star lodge with distinctive pueblo revival architecture truly on display.

Tan adobe blocks form the walls of each suite, with three stories peacefully shaded by lush greenery, colourful xeriscaped gardens, and private wooden balconies creating an intimate but sophisticated setting. Dried chilli peppers hang on lanais, draped from each balcony, symbolistic of true New Mexican culture. Firewood sits neatly piled outside each ground floor suite, with unadorned outdoor furniture fitting with the hotel’s theme of simplistic elegance.

The Inn on the Alameda is an experience within itself, and truly the best way to experience Santa Fe.

Affectionately known to locals as “that enchanting small hotel in old Santa Fe”, while enchanting it is, small it is not. The Inn is cozy, intimate and quiet; though with spacious suites set gracefully across a property which spans 2 acres and 10 buildings, including a beautifully designed lobby with expansive breakfast hall and bar, one could hardly describe it as small.  However the modesty and understated elegance of the Inn is it’s main charm.

While sprawled across a sizable portion of land in historic Santa Fe, the Inn is well-designed to achieve a perfect balance of intimate and low key, while remaining lavish and sophisticated.

Roomy suites allow guests the ability to sprawl out while reading up on the history of New Mexico from the diverse range of literature provided in-room. Private balconies allow guests to enjoy the fresh air in an intimate setting. A fully-equipped exercise room and two hot tubs on site cater to everyone, whether you are looking to exercise or relax.

Steps from the hotel, Mariachi music fills the historic Santa Fe Plaza as Mexican musicians play until the sun goes down. There are no parking fees at the Inn, so accessing the city’s main attractions, restaurants and cultural spots is a breeze.

But the best part? There are no hidden fees!

While the amount of complimentary amenities included in the price of each room almost borders on the outrageous, the main inclusions involve free high speed wifi, complimentary onsite parking, complimentary courtesy shuttle to downtown attractions, local and 800-number calls always at no charge, organic in-room coffee, lobby library with books and games, and a relaxing wine-and-cheese reception daily from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a selection of cheeses, olives, bread, fruit and crudite.

Live Mariachi music

Live Mariachi music filled the historic Santa Fe Plaza, just steps away from the Inn.

An “expanded continental breakfast” is also available, which translates into a lavish spread of fresh-cut fruits, organic dairy and cereal products, juices, an array of pastries, savory options like quiche or stuffed croissants, and a wide range of eggs, including organic and gluten-free choices.

Of course these are all locally-sourced wherever possible.

The Inn on the Alameda is intimate; the Inn on the Alameda is elegant, and the Inn on the Alameda is right in the heart of Santa Fe.

What are you waiting for?!

  6. Looking great and cozy at the same time. When staying somewhere the authentic feeling is always very important to us, no matter if it’s a hostel or a luxury hotel…

    • We’re starting to only stay in authentic accommodation if we can help it – have realized accommodation should be part of an overall travel experience as opposed to just somewhere to lay your head!

  7. What a charming place! I’ve been wanting to go to Santa Fe for quite some time. For me, it’s always epitomized the culture of the Southwest and I know that the arts community there is very vibrant. Hopefully I can make it soon. I don’t think I’ll have any problems convincing my wife to stay here, as it provides the level of coziness that makes an inn memorable.

    • The arts community here is definitely huge. You can tell from just walking the streets – we loved the vibe; street musicians, street art, galleries on every corner – one of my favorite American cities by far!

Let us know if you need any tips for when you get the chance to visit!

  8. Looks like you have found a real gem of a spot off the beaten path here Meg in Santa Fe! I loved reading those opening paragraphs with your descriptive tone (kudos for the attention grabbers there!) and it really setup the pictures you included.

Of course it was a bonus that you were able to listen to the live Mariachi music in the historic Sante Fe plaza – I am sure that was a real treat and well worth the visit to this location alone!

    • Thanks Chris! Trying to channel my inner travel writer as best I can!

I guess they had a battle of the bands going on in the main plaza while we were there which was really fun; though supposedly there’s music in the square most nights. Really loved it because everyone was out with their picnics and their kids, and there was a real community feel about the place.

  9. Looks lovely. I have never travelled in this region of the U.S. but this post has me thinking of putting it on my list.

    • I’m so glad to hear Deb – we had a brilliant time in Santa Fe and can highly recommend it as a great destination. It’s very different to any other region of the US, so you’re definitely in for a unique trip!

      Happy travels :)

  10. Hi Megan,

I love the colors in the room; that blue pillow really pops! As does the blanket on the bed.

    Thanks for sharing :)

    Ryan

    • Thanks Ryan, the colors really do pop – it’s this small attention to detail which really makes a hotel stay great; the warm colors really made it feel homey and authentic.

Glad you enjoyed the review :)

  11. Beautiful place and the room looks so nice! This is why I love the small places you can just stumble upon, run by family members, you can feel right from the start welcomed and at home. I am glad that internet is allowing more people to advertise and let others know about them :)

    • It really was a gem Monika! Highly recommend if you’re heading through Santa Fe anytime soon! And totally agree re the internet making way for word of mouth to spread more rapidly – it’s the best kind of advertising by far :)
