I love featuring the experiences of fellow travel bloggers…especially when they have traveled to worlds I am yet to explore!  As such, this week’s guest blog comes from Justin Carmack of The Art of Scuba Diving.

When Justin was in Tofo, traveling Mozambique, he finally did something he had always wanted to do: he got Padi certified.  He says:

“My first scuba experience opened a can of worms for me, as it caused me to acquire a whole new addiction, albeit a healthy one. I could never fully describe how amazing diving is to someone that’s never gone, so let me just let the photos do the talking. The water is a little murky because of all the plankton, but that’s what attracts the whale-sharks that Tofo is known for.”

Have you been scuba diving?  Where are your favorite spots?

Justin sold his things and left home, trading his possessions for dreams. Dreams of seeing the world, getting lost, and living life free and to the fullest. He has now been wandering aimlessly for three years, and this life has taken him through 62 countries, 6 continents and countless adventures.

Since then he has started The Art of Scuba Diving. Follow Justin and his mission to dive the top 100 scuba diving locations in the world. He is exploring, documenting and writing about each and every one, to show the world.

  1. Looks amazing. We got our PADIs last year and our favourite spot would have to be the Galapagos! It was out of this world. Highlight was scuba diving with hammerhead sharks!

    • !!! We’re heading to the Galapagos in exactly a month! You’ve just made me even more excited. Sadly we don’t have our PADI yet, but Justin’s posts and pictures have us inspired to get on it. We’ve gone out and bought snorkel gear and wetsuits for the Galapagos as a compromise to not being able to scuba – hopefully it’ll still be a great experience :)

  2. Jealous! We were suppose to head there on our safari but with current situations there things changed. We hope to come back next year.

    • Hopefully you have the opportunity to head back once things settle down – it’s a phenomenal location!

  3. I spent a month in Tofo in 2012, doing volunteer work diving with All Out Africa. When I was there the diving was not fabulous, but head on over to my blog and check it out. Funny, the cushion starfish is my lead photo on my Friday blog.

    • So glad you also had the chance to experience Tofo Tam; checked out your blog and your underwater photos are awesome. I especially love the Blue Serpent Starfish – color was out of this world!

  4. Wow!!! Amazing Story…….@Megan! I love your post..I think the things you covered through the post are quiet impressive, good job and great efforts. I found it very interesting and enjoyed reading all of it…keep it up, lovely job..

    • Thanks Jean – so glad you enjoyed the post! Hope you have the chance to enjoy Scuba in Mozambique soon :)

  5. Awesome!!! Sweet Mozambique… It’s definitely the most incredible place I have ever dived. Deep coral reefs starting at 28 meters and dropping off to even more than 50 meters game fish, dolphins and ALL kinds of sharks: Hammerheads, Tiger and Zambezi. But below 30 meters mark ((thanks to my brother’s diving Rolex Submariner chronometer ;-) I wasn’t able to see even my own arm. The best “big blue” dive in the world!

    • Hi Greg – glad you enjoyed your time diving in Mozambique too! I think sharks would be the big draw for me – really need to get my act into gear and sort our my scuba cert soon! Guest posts like these inspire me to get out into the sea!!

  6. This looks awesome. Great photos. My husband is certified, and the way he talks about diving, it’s given me the bug. I hope to get PADI certified this year in Australia. After that, I can’t wait to travel to some of these amazing places.

    • Glad you enjoyed the post Sharon – fabulous to hear that you’ll be pursuing your cert too! Australia is a fantastic place to learn … definitely hit up the Great Barrier Reef if you have the chance!

All the best for your scuba cert … and happy travels!

  7. Scuba diving is one of my biggest passions. The main reason I love diving is the adventure, because you never know what you will found below the water surface. The second reason would be the wonderful diversity of the marine life.

    • Fabulous Melissa! Yes, it’s literally a whole new world underneath the surface! Totally agree on the marine life being a huge reason to scuba :) Have a great weekend!

  8. Thanks for the reply, Meg! :D

    • You’re welcome … I always aim to reply :)

  9. The pictures make it look veeeery tempting. Kinda reminds me of the Reef. I’ve never dived in Africa and it’s been on my list for some time. Zanzibar was #1 on my list, but after some Googling and seeing posts like yours, the priorities are changing :)

Anyway, thanks for the great post
    Stay Safe,
    Tim

    • Glad we could inspire you to consider Mozambique Tim :) Zanzibar is a pretty great place too to be honest, maybe you can do a bit of island hopping during your trip and take them both in :D
