So you’ve planned for the most amazing adventures of a lifetime, enjoying all the most exciting, challenging activities the world has to offer.

I’m talking weeks skiing in the Alps, scaling and clambering up mountains in the northernmost parts of Scotland, hiking through Italy, or a month surfing down in Cornwall. There are some truly amazing experiences to be had out there.

But then that age old maxim rings true. You need a vacation from your vacation. After you return home you’re drained, you’re grubby, your feet have developed huge callouses and blisters.

Overall, you’re really not feeling your most attractive. Sure, there’s the whole warrior-woman, fresh out of the wild aesthetic, but it’s not the fourteenth century, and you’re really not feeling it.

That’s where a trip to the spa can come in handy. Perhaps even a health retreat in Queensland. Perfect for dealing with those post-adventure blues, and for acclimatising back to normal life, a spa trip can also get you feeling healthy and attractive again.

5 Reasons to Counter Your Adventure Holiday with a Great Spa Trip

Deal With Those Aches and Pains

One of the best features of any quality spa location is the range of treatments all designed to help treat achy, tense muscles.

From massage, to sauna, to skin treatments, all these options are primed to loosen up and fix those worn out muscles.

Beauty Treatments

You’ve spent a week in the mountains. Your nails are plain and worn, your feet are calloused and tired, and your face looks like you’ve spent a solid six hard years at sea.

It happens to all of us. Fortunately, any reputable spa will carry a huge range of amazing treatments to get you feeling yourself again.

Benefits of a Spa Break RF

Eat Healthy and Keep Up Some Light Exercise

The last thing you want to do when returning from a week of heavy exercise, feeling absolutely amazing, but drained, is sit down at home, and order a pizza.

That’s why a couple of days at a spa, recovering, doing a little light exercise, and eating right is the way to go.

Relax Completely and Focus on Yourself

Post-adventure blues can hit hard, and you don’t want to go back home feeling sad, and desperately planning your next trip.

You want to be happy, centred and ready to get back on with your home life. You do this by getting relaxed and content at a quality spa location.

  1. I really enjoyed your style of writing! Haha looking like you’ve spent six hard years at sea – I laughed out loud. A spa sounds like the perfect way to treat post adventure blues :) Great post!

    • Thanks Maxine! Glad you enjoyed the post haha yes we like to include a bit of sarcastic humor in there if we can :D!

  2. I’ve been on the road a lot this past Summer and I’m starting to think you’re right. I’ve always loved adventuring but sometimes I’d just need some time for myself, to relax and feel like myself again! Skipping sauna, which I just can’t stand, I wouldn’t mind a massage or a skin treatment… a facial maybe? Maybe I’m getting old :D

    • Haha I went through the same process of thinking I’m getting old, because I’m starting to prefer more relaxing holidays which prioritize the me time! Still love adventuring, but now I aim for more of a balance instead of jumping straight back into the home routine :)

  3. I totally get this longing for a vacation after a vacation, especially after one week at home, getting all the washing done, stocking up on groceries, packing everything away that came back from the holidays… Would it be selfish to want to do the spa trip all on my own?

    • Not selfish at all – I totally understand you!

  4. It doesn’t matter where we travel to, but a spa day is always included. Especially in combination with a gym day it’s one of the best things. One of the best Spa Treatments I ever had was in Bali. First I’ve been massaged with a chocolate oil, followed by a cacao scrub and finished with a chocolate bath :D

    • You’ll have to give me the name of your spa in Bali – that sounds incredible Tom!

  5. Haha…I laughed out loud reading the intro! Certainly not the 14th century :)

I guess people need a vacation from a vacation as much as they need a vacation from work…spa sounds like a good way of doing it for both.

Btw I also always enjoy a good spa anytime I am traveling…

    • Haha I’m glad you enjoyed the humor :D Yes, we head out on a vacation to have a break from the stresses of daily life but then do need to decompress after having been so active, especially if it was an adventurous trip!

Always about achieving balance – I’ve found a spa is a great way to do that :)

  6. Oh yes! We do need a vacation from a vacation! ;) agree with you that when spa vacations are coupled with adventure , you are actually ready to go to another trip completely renewed and refreshed! :)
I remember all the tanning in Myanmar and the gorgeous spa treatments in Inle and Bagan with locally grown sesame seeds!
Most of these spas even have scenic views! The Bhutanese hot stone therapy is one such treatment wich works wonders after the arduous Tigers nest monastery trek!

    • Tigers nest monastery trek is something I really want to do, and Bhutanese hot stone therapy sounds like a great way to relax after the arduous trek!

Awesome to know that there are gorgeous spa treatments in Inle and Bagan – thanks for the tip!

  7. Awesome post! At the end of each adventure, I always tend to just rest at home with all the pain in my muscles and aches in my back. I might have to consider putting spa on my itinerary next time. Thanks a lot for this :)

    • Thanks Mike! Check into a spa after your next trip and see how you like it – might help fast track those achy muscles before you get home!

  8. Mrs W loves the spas and we do like going to nice spa hotels. Personally, I don’t mind the pool but I’m not too fussed on treatments -I’m a bit strange and don’t like being touched.

    • It’s not that strange – my husband doesn’t like to be touched by strangers either. The nice thing is that many quality spas have options like the pool, or a sauna, so perhaps Mrs can enjoy the treatments and you can relax with a cocktail at the pool :)

  9. So THAT’S what I’ve been missing post-holiday all these years, haha! I’ve always maxed out my vacation breaks by holidaying up until the last minute (you can always recover at work, right?!) but then I’d spend the next week feeling like the creature from the black lagoon. Maybe I’ll try the spa thing next time … my employer is SO going to thank you!!

    • Haha happens to the best of us, I’m the very same!! But yes, I’ve realized the value in returning a couple of days early for some proper time to relax back into normal life!

Let us know what you think if you try it next trip!

  10. I really need a spa day in the worst way … thanks for planting the idea in my head! :)

    • Happy to inspire :D!

  11. Spa on a adventure holiday, yes please. Spa after any holiday, yes please :) Active holidays, in general, tend to be quite hectic and we always spa treatments so much more relaxing after we get back. A great way to recharge all that holiday exhaustion!

    • It’s a great combination isn’t it! Super tempting to pack as much into our holidays as we can possibly get, but we do need a period of time to decompress after that.

  12. After an amazing spa session in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I’m of the opinion that men need spas too. WHile it looks cheesy for an outdoorsy man it does work wonders mentally and physically.

    • Absolutely, we definitely don’t discriminate when recommending a spa trip! Totally agree that women shouldn’t be the only ones to benefit from the mental and physical benefits of a spa break, even though it might not be the most manly stereotype for a trip.
