  1. Funny how I focused on that PDA PSA at the end of the post Meg ;)

When in neighboring Qatar, in Doha, last year, wifey and I did zero PDA stuff. Muslim countries are not keen on public displays of affection. Local culture.

But in the compound we were good to hold hands because even though we were outside of the home, 90% of folks in the compound were expats. Meaning all of us were A-OK with it and the few Qatari folks living in the compound had no issues either, seeing our micro culture.

    Thanks for sharing :)

    Ryan

    • Absolutely Ryan, it’s so important to respect the culture and law of the country you’re visiting, and while I think it’s important to do this first and foremost out of respect anywhere you go, there are many places like the UAE of Qatar where offence could cause you serious trouble.

Awesome that you had a mini culture going on within the expat compound in Doha though, and that the local Qatari’s were happy to embrace it :)

  2. I’ve been to the UAE once but can totally see why you would recommend it for a honeymoon. There is luxury and opulence there like nowhere else in the world, for sure! There are so many over-the-top experience you can have there, that it will certainly be a memorable holiday, even if you have to be a little more modest than is comfortable (honestly, I had no problem with that at all, other than being hot in my more covered up clothes!)

    • Absolutely – nothing is ever done in halves in the UAE!! And honestly, I really don’t think it’s a big sacrifice to dress a little more modestly either. The sheer opulence of everything on offer in Dubai is worth respecting their cultural norms :)

  3. I’m not much for sand and desert locations (tropical beach girl myself) but the more I read on Dubai the more interesting it sounds, especially the overnight desert camp. That’s definitely an adventure you can’t have elsewhere!

    • Dubai is a world unto itself – a world of absolute contrasts where you can enjoy the tropical beach vacation during the day if you want, and then go dune bashing and stay in the desert overnight.

Highly recommend it as a unique experience :)

    • Hot air balloon in the morning followed by a relaxing spa in the afternoon sounds like the perfect way to spend a day!

  9. All of these sound amazing, but if I could only pick one I think I’d go with the Overnight Desert Safari Camp. I think laying under the stars with your loved one would be truly romantic!

    • Absolutely – that’s definitely an experience you shouldn’t miss!
