I’m loving the explosion of glamping in Australia; the availability of luxury accommodation in picturesque natural surrounds. I’m talking tents with real beds, cozy decor, and all of the amenities of home. I’m talking luxury cabins offering secluded wilderness with a hot tub.
From barns and cabins, to tree house hotels and caves, glamping is a way to connect with your surroundings without having to rough it. And with incomparable access to nature, “glamorous camping” is the newest Australian craze. Tucked inside mountains, scattered along white-sand beaches, unique structures with an amazing backdrop are beginning to pop up everywhere.
Located in the beautiful East Gippsland region of Victoria, one glamping site is particularily worth noting. Situated in lesser known Nungurner is a unique rural homestead; a contemporary vacation cabin nestled on 50 acres of stunning countryside. Just over three hours east of Melbourne, this property provides the perfect setting to retreat, relax and rejuvenate, and is the ideal base for exploring everything East Gippsland has to offer.
Glamping Review: Contemporary Vacation Cabin with Hot Tub on Gippsland Lakes, Victoria
While the majority of travelers to Australia head straight for the iconic sites of Melbourne, Sydney or the Outback, this amazing country offers so much more. Occupying the vast eastern corner of Victoria, East Gippsland is one area in particular that travelers should explore; a region of spectacular natural landscapes of unparalleled beauty.
With plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking and climbing, across dozens of reserves and National Parks, as well as coastal beaches, tourist villages and the majestic Gippsland Lakes, it’s impossible to truly discover the region without establishing a good base. And as we recently discovered, Glamping Hub’s “Contemporary Vacation Cabin on Gippsland Lakes” is that true country escape.
The ultimate vacation retreat, this contemporary cabin rental is just minutes from Lakes Entrance and Metung. And we were swept away by the experience this modern homestead provides.
On driving onto the property, a large entertainment deck with pizza oven, BBQ and outdoor dining instantly stands out. And it’s tempting to make a beeline for the hammocks before pulling the bags from the car, with rolling farmland and a peaceful dam as your view. Though don’t stay too distracted by the backdrop and hammocks as you may miss the outdoor heated spa behind you.
If traveling in a small party, you’ll have your pick of rooms. With four bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one wheelchair friendly), a modern kitchen with open plan dining, plus comfortable leather lounge, we should upgrade our superlatives from “spacious” to “downright huge”.
The cabin comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests, with each room and bathroom offering views of native bushland. Though don’t let the word “cabin” fool you into thinking you’re sacrificing on comfort – deluxe hotel quality linen and towels are provided for each guest.

A Home Away From Home
The kitchen is stocked to feel like a home away from home. There is a cooktop, oven and microwave, and you can either have meals catered and delivered, or stop at the grocery store in Lakes Entrance to slow cook, blend, stir fry or sizzle your way to fabulous food. There is plenty of silver ware (and plastic ware if traveling with children), as well as every amenity you may need – salt and pepper, cooking spray, foil, cling wrap. Everything is supplied for your convenience.
It was quite cool during our stay, though a romantic countryside retreat calls for the use of a cozy log fire anyway (all wood was provided) … even though there is switch on the split system for instant comfort and warmth.
After exploring the expansive grounds, it was time to stretch out on the plush leather sofa for some screen time in front of the 55 inch HD TV. Indulging in some of East Gippslands best regional wine promptly led to utilizing the portable speakers and plugging in our favorite tunes … we danced like nobody was watching, aside from a curious echidna or two.
In a Nutshell
This truly modern and pet friendly glamping is perfect for couples, 1 or 2 families, or a group of friends looking to escape the daily grind and enjoy country living.
This is the perfect place to disconnect from the digital world, and reconnect with life’s simple pleasures. Enjoy outdoor dining on the deck amidst a tranquil bush setting, relax in the outdoor spa, explore bush trails on the property, or share a story or two around the fire pit.
The cabin is a great base to get out and explore the beautiful region of East Gippsland. You can experience gourmet food & wine, markets, bushwalking, cycling (the property offers a ride/dine/wine experience and mountain bike packages for guests), fantastic scenery on 90 Mile Beach, a cruise on the Gippsland Lakes, National Parks and so much more.
Pro Tip: Nungurner may be hidden away in East Gippsland, though the secret is quickly getting out. If you’re keen to book this off-the-beaten-track glamping experience, make sure you book in advance.
