Arizona Desert Sunset

Arizona Desert Sunrise.

It’s not hard to see why we’ve instantly fallen in love with Phoenix.

A vibrant city surrounded by beautiful desert scenery, with cactus plants most people only see in cartoons, once you get out of the city and into the Sonoran Desert it’s as if the world stops spinning.

We stood mesmerized on an early morning hike watching the sun slowly rise, casting a silhouette over a nearby towering cactus. The scene was truly awe inspiring.

  1. Ooh I was born in Phoenix but moved when I was three so I don’t really remember too much. I’ve never seen a desert before, I’d love to see the sunrise there! Looks gorgeous.

    • Sounds like a great excuse to book a vacation back home! We’ve been really impressed by the desert – surprisingly more colourful than we envisaged!

  2. Stunning! I’m a sucker for sunrises ( and sunsets) and love waking up early to see them. This one is particularly beautiful with the cactus silhouette!

    • I’m NOT a morning person at the best of times lol but if it’s for a stunning sunrise I can generally pull myself out of bed :D!

  3. Love sunset/sunrise pictures. Love the cactus in it….great idea!

    • Thanks Marsha! We thought it was pretty beautiful and just had to snap a photo!

  4. Amazing shot! I loved the look of the Arizona desert on Breaking Bad (oh wait, that’s New Mexico! sorry) anyway, I’d love to visit, to meet you and the other Arizona Bloggers!

    • New Mexico is right next door lol so they’re very similar :D Definitely let us know if you end up heading this way!

  5. When I drove through Arizona recently on Route 66 I didn’t find a cactus that looked like this :( Just small ones. This photo is simple yet stunning!

    • SOunds like a great excuse for another trip back! This time come through and visit us – we just moved into town :) We’ll take you cactus hunting :D

  6. Beautiful shot! I was born & raised in Tucson – not too far from Scottsdale – and so miss the desert. Sunrise and sunset there are like no place in the world! Thanks for sharing.

    • Thanks Rob! We’ve been spending time just above Scottsdale atm and really loving the vibe here. Have just signed a lease for a few months so looking forward to spending some quality time in the desert!

  7. Arizona is great. Enjoy your time there. I am sure you will!

    • Thanks Charles! Loving it so far!

  8. I remember the first and only time I visited Phoenix. I was in Flagstaff after hiking the Grand Canyon. It was 50 degrees in flag. I gained 402 degrees in the two hour drive. I was elated to see the saguaro cactus during the drive. This photo brings back good memories and reminds me I need to return.

    • The Saguaro Cactus is a definite highlight if you’re not familiar with a desert landscape. It literally looks like the cartoons I’ve been watching ever since I was a kid, so I’m quite excited :D!

So glad you had a great time in AZ. It’s a pretty fantastic state!

  9. Gotta love it for sure! Beautiful photo of the sunrise! Thanks for sharing!

    • Looking forward to some more of these before we move back to Aus!

  10. I love Arizona, especially the cool looking cacti. While I was out there, I was just waiting to see the Road Runner come flying by me with a trail of dust! lol

    • The road runners are amazing lol! We’ve managed to see a few running across different hiking trails out here – trying to catch one sitting still long enough to take a great picture is the challenge!
