If you’re planning a major trip, or are in the middle of an extended period of travel, you might be worried about how you’ll be able to keep your standard of living at a consistent level.

Coming up with extra cash is particularly hard while you are on the move, but thanks to modern technology there are a few ways to get around this.

There are also many hacks you can embrace to save money while still enjoying the creature comforts you crave. Here are just a handful of ideas to try out if you want to travel without making too many sacrifices on the way.

Coming Up With Extra Cash to Make Your Travels Last That Little Bit Longer

Harness Casino Offers

This is an interesting one for people who want to earn some cash while filling their spare time on their travels.

Hundreds of modern casino sites provide sign-up bonuses and incentives to new players, which effectively gives you free money to use playing on potentially rewarding games.

You could create an account with a reputable site, take advantage of the freebie spins you get for signing up, then see if you can win cash in return without actually having to put any of your own money on the line.

It’s always important to read the terms and conditions so you understand the restrictions which may apply.

Work as a Freelancer

You don’t need a fixed-position job or even a permanent address if you want to take on freelance work in the modern age.

Digital nomad culture has been developing for several years, so as long as you have a laptop computer and an internet connection, you can take on work and bulk out your bank balance wherever you happen to be.

If you have experience in a particular area, whether it be graphic design, copywriting, social media management or anything else that can be carried out digitally, you could keep making money on your travels.

There are various sites that help to connect freelancers with clients, such as Fiverr and PeoplePerHour. Just remember that they tend to take a commission on any money you make.

Take Temp Jobs

Most parts of the world will have short term positions available in different industries for travellers who are willing to work when they have the time.

From getting busy behind a bar to picking fruit and even providing rep services for other travellers, you can generally find a lot of varied options.

The main thing to think about is whether your visa will cover you for the work itself. Cash in hand casual work can be sought out, but could create problems if you ever get questioned by the powers that be while toiling off the books.

  1. Keep opening those income streams online guys. Freelancing is awesome, as you noted Meg. Add streams like coaching, writing and self-publishing eBooks and converting to audio books. If money flows in enough you can travel non-stop, for years. Just help folks for free to expand your presence, network through blog commenting and keep opening profit streams.

    • Absolutely Ryan, we’re all about diversifying our income streams, so we’re constantly brainstorming new ideas to keep the digital nomad lifestyle a sustainable one :)

And you’re right, helping others and networking has been really key to our success at finding work and unlocking new revenue streams / opportunities – you’re the master of networking, and I see it definitely pays off for you as well!

  2. ALWAYS make sure you are not violating your visa! (Which actually means you need to obtain the proper visa BEFORE you go!)

    • Absolutely Roy, I recently heard of an influencer who rocked up for a press trip in the USA, and was sent back to Canada, because even though she wasn’t being paid, they determined that she was probably going to sell her photos to the companies who were hosting her on the trip. So now she’ll be forever flagged when trying to enter the USA. It’s a really, really important point to make sure you have visas in order if you plan on working.

    • Love passive income :)
