  1. Very cool design & info! Shared!

I would also suggest using Wander – which helps you search by budget, so it can help in some cases.

    • Glad it was helpful, appreciate the share! And thanks for the tip on Wander, will check it out :)

  2. Wow! This was completely new way of organizing all information about saving money while traveling. I had never quite looked at size of the airport to decide where to fly into…this was new and pretty useful information already :)

I also like the simple tips (especially on discounts for elders – like for my mother)…we often forget to look at these, so a checklist really helps out on that.

    • Glad you enjoyed the infographic Siddhartha and could pick up some new insights :) Absolutely on the bigger airports – there’s more traffic coming through, and more competition so this usually means more competitive flight prices.

And you should absolutely keep an eye out for discounts if you have certain credentials, like a student or a seniors card in the case of your mother. They really come in handy sometimes, discounts will vary from country to country but some can be quite substantial!

  3. Glad to see that infographic mentions Couchsurfing. A decade back I used to do a lot of Couchsurfing, though I have not used it lately. Though it helps you save money, to me it was more of cultural immersion for me. Everyone who stayed with me or who I stayed with our some of my best traveling friends.

Price alerts is another great way to save money and of course using the public transport always help.

    • I agree, I love couchsurfing more so for the cultural immersion and ability to meet locals than the free accommodation, it’s such a fabulous community, it’s been fabulous to have seen it grown over the past decade.

Price alerts are my favorite hack – I’ve turned my inbox into a breeding ground for spam for having subscribed to so many price alerts and email lists lol, but it’s a great way to stay on top of sales and discounts! :)

  4. I am 100% behind choosing connecting flights to save money. We actually try to find the most connections we can in any one flight (provided we have some extra time) and have lengthy layovers so we can get outside and explore a new city for “free”.

    • Absolutely! I love planning a layover strategically to see two cities for the price of one – and I really don’t mind connecting flights if it means a cheaper fare – which it usually does :)

  5. I love that one tip is to follow your favourite bloggers. Great advice!! I hate wasting money on travel when I can save a few pennies here and there for fun activites when I am travelling.

    • Glad you enjoyed the infographic Jean – absolutely re sourcing travel advice from bloggers – I feel as though this is most people’s main source of travel information nowadays :)

      Happy travels!

  6. Great graphic. Is it Canva? I’ve been using Canva a lot lately for graduate school assignments.

    • I’m actually not sure, the team at PSECU created it, and then their PR company forwarded it across to me, but I used Canva to create my pins for the article :) Love it, the user experience makes design so easy!

  7. These info graphics are so organized and well presented. When I travel with family I look for student discounts for my kids. Also I try and book in one particular hotel chain. I have availed discounts several times from them. In Germany we got a free stay for 2 nights! Haven’t signed up for price alerts yet. I need to do that.

    • I really love infographics, they make digesting information a lot more fun and visual :) Fabulous to hear you’re all over the student discounts – I used my international student card all throughout Europe during my unviersity studies, and the savings were around 25% – not something to scoff at!

Using the same hotel chain for rewards is a great idea to – kudos on working rewards up to two free nights! That’s the way to do it :)

  8. My wife and I love traveling as much as we can and the easiest we’ve found to extend our travels is to do it as cheaply as possible, especially the small stuff. Bringing our own water bottles and food to the airport has saved us a lot of money over the years, and it’s so easy! We love the discount airfare sites, thanks for more so we can do more research! Thanks for sharing!

    • Absolutely Stevo – every little bit counts, and what you don’t spend today extends your trip by another day. We bring our own water and food to the airports too – and it helps flying on the same airline frequently, because then the lounges usually have complimentary food and drink you can take advantage of.

Glad you enjoyed the post – happy travels!

  9. Without getting broke. haha that sounds so me – got broke before I even learned some travel hacks on how to save to travel! I like Skyscanner and Rome2rio. Both of them are really helpful in comparing flights, things to do and other things that are related to travel. And I agree with the last one, consider a travel agent. Sometimes travel agents are actually nice and won’t rip you off. In Hanoi, I have a favorite travel agent, she always gives us a huge discount, that we could save more bucks than DIY!

    • Fabulous to hear you have a great travel agent Catherine :) Absolutely – if you can find someone you trust who has access to better deals than you can otherwise find, it’s a no brainer :)

  10. Great ideas! Wonderful article.

    • Thanks Bruce! Glad you enjoyed the infographic :)

  11. Awesome infographic!

    • Glad you enjoyed it! Happy travels :)

  12. This infographic has been a real eye-opener. They even have optimum times of the day to land best deals! I must admit I am a total novice when it comes to travel hacks. Have to learn a few tips…about time.

    • Glad you enjoyed it Punita! You can right click and save it if it’s helpful for future reference :)

  13. Awesome infographic with great info. I love that you included telling your financial institution that you’ll be gone, that’s one I always forget.

    • Thanks Mags, I’m glad you enjoyed it :) Yes, telling your bank you’re traveling is such an important part of pre-trip planning – there’s nothing worse than being in the middle of a trip and finding that they’ve blocked your card!!

  14. wow, that’s a lot of information!
Some of them I understand but some others I had not thought of. Actually, you don’t always remember things when you are in a hurry. So good to have a ready reckoner. I think I should save this infographic for future reference.

    • Glad you found it informative Jitaditya! Yes absolutely, it’s there’s a lot of planning that goes into a trip overseas, and we’re often trying to juggle our everyday life while we’re planning, so it’s important to have a checklist so you don’t miss anything. You’re more than welcome to save the infographic to your computer and use this as a checklist :)
