Located on the coast of Spain, Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, full of charm, ancient history, iconic buildings and monuments like the world famous Sagrada Familia.

This is for the most part because of the early-20th-century architects and artists who lived there, like the incredible Antoni Gaudí, who designed several buildings inside and outside of Barcelona as well.

One of the great things about the city of Barcelona are the several viewpoints which offer spectacular panoramic views of the city. And that’s what this article is all about; where to find the best and most breathtaking views Catalonia has to offer!

Where to Find the Best Views in Barcelona

Sagrada Familia Towers

The Sagrada Familia is one of the most iconic and representative monuments of Barcelona, it defines the skyline of the city and offers a beautiful view of the city from the Sagrada Familia Towers.

It is a symbol of modernist architecture designed by Gaudí, still under construction since 1882. The temple has a total of 18 towers, also known as spires, which most of them are completed today and are available to go up to admire the city or sea view.

The tallest of the towers will be 170 meters, and will be the highest point in Barcelona.

What is interesting about the church is that there are so many differences in design – many architects having worked on it throughout history all of whom has very different ideas; a metaphor for the city itself.

The Bunkers of Carmel

Located in the Turó de la Rovira, the Bunkers of Carmel can be reached through the Guinardó Park. Because of its strategic location, during the Spanish Civil War anti-aircraft batteries were placed on this hill that were in operation to protect people from the fascist aviation’s attacks.

The best views can be witnessed at sunrise or sunset, which makes it a perfect place for couples to spend a romantic moment. It is also a great spot to have a nice picnic with family or friends too, even to spend some quiet time alone for meditation.

It’s a lot less busy than the likes of Park Güell. The bunker can be reached on foot from Alfons X metro station (but beware it is a steep climb) or, if you’ve already purchased a transport ticket, by V17 bus from Port Vell.

Montjuïc Cable Car

The Montjuïc is the most historical mountain in Barcelona, and once there you will be able to enjoy beautiful and panoramic views from the castle.

Admire the sea like the Iberians did, learn about the history of Mount Jupiter and find out more about the development of the port which stands over 170 meters above sea level.

Purchase a round trip ticket to get on the Montjuïc cable car for spectacular panoramic views of Barcelona. You can take the funicular at the Paral·lel metro station, which will drop you at the first Montjuïc cable car station.

This is without a doubt the best way to reach the top of the mountain.

It was designed by Norman Foster in 1992 for the Olympic Games, which dominates the whole panorama of the city. It stands with a height of 288 metres, which allows visitors wonderful 360º views of Barcelona.

It is still one the most representative modern monuments in the city.

The Views from Park Güell

Designed by Antoni Gaudí, Park Güell is a great masterpiece with a total surface of 19 hectares, and a maximum height of 210 metres. Gaudí intentionally designed the park with the use of natural art elements from the surrounding areas to create colourful sculptures and buildings into the park.

It is filled with trees and allows tourists and local residents to enjoy time off the very busy streets of Barcelona. It improves the air quality and environment of the area, which helps ease the daily urban pressure.

You can spend the day and enjoy a nice picnic, or just take a stroll around the park.

You can visit for free and it provides the chance of going inside the Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazón, a building that stands out every night for its extensive brightness from basically anywhere in the city of Barcelona.

Very nearby you will see the Fabra Astronomical Observatory, the oldest observatory in the world that still remains operative today, are also great spots to view and take pics of Barcelona.

The National Museum of Art of Catalonia

Also known as MNAC, the museum has two terraces located on the roof of the National Palace building that give panoramic full 360º views with access free of charge for visitors that purchase tickets for the museum.

The National Museum of Art of Catalonia was built as the National Palace of Montjuïc for the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929. They house a Romanesque art collection that is considered one of the best in the world.

A definite must see when you visit the city.

Another one of the symbols of Barcelona, has a wonderful view from the terrace where you can enjoy a unique point of view of the Eixample district.

These are a few of our favorite places where you can enjoy some of the best panoramic views of the city of Barcelona. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit and have a wonderful time!
