If you’re in the market for new luggage this year, choosing a high quality, durable bag is crucial. After-all, most travelers get at least 5 – 10 years out of a good bag, if not finding something they can use for life.

The last thing that you want is for your luggage to get ruined while you’re on the road, and shopping around is not something you want to continually have to do.

Research is crucial to finding a high quality bag, and you should definitely compare the market before deciding to buy. That said, if you’re not a big research person, there are a couple of brands who you can rely on every-time.

After examining the best luggage brands revealed by review sites, the following are the top five luggage brands this year.

The Top 5 Luggage Brands of the Year

Samsonite

Samsonite is by far the top luggage brand this year, and has been leading the industry for the last couple of years. The brand exudes elegance, quality, and resilience, and the wide-range product line makes it accessible to every budget.

Whether you are traveling for work or vacation, you can never go wrong with Samsonite luggage. The wheels are durable and the handles comfortable to carry and drag at the airport and on the streets.

  1. I love the look of Samsonite. So rugged and tough, whenever I see it moving around conveyor belts at airports. Envious LOL; though of course I could buy one myself, right? I also recall that brand and American Tourister well before I began traveling, seeing the commercials on TV as a kid in the USA. As a guy who burned through cheap luggage during my early travel days I learned spending more dough for that 5-10 year window you mention Meg is the way to go.

    • Absolutely Ryan – luggage is one of those investments where it’s definitely better in the long run to pay more up front for quality, as opposed to replacing crappy suitcases every year. You end up spending more doing that than you would have from one that is built to last :)

Samsonite is an incredible brand – I can highly recommend them if you’re looking to pass that envy onto other travelers around you lol

  2. Army duffel bags are the best! Save on weight and will stand anything.

    • Great tip Marcia! I haven’t used army duffel bags in the past, though it totally makes sense – they’re built to withstand the most extreme of conditions. Thanks for sharing :)

  3. Always check the warranty and online reviews – sometimes they are not worth the paper they are written on.

    • Great advice Penny, definitely something to consider for online purchases :)

  4. Can never go wrong with Samsonite.

    • You’re right there!

  5. No backpack brands huh

    • Patagonia, Eagle Creek and Fjällräven are awesome brands if you’re looking for a reliable backpack :)

  6. Our current suitcases are American Tourister, but they’re at the end of their lifespan! Time for a new brand.

    • You can’t go wrong with Samsonite if you’re looking for a new brand that’s similar :)

  7. If you’re buying new luggage, don’t buy black. It’s so common, and usually pretty tough to tell apart when it come out on the conveyor belt.

    • Great tip Becky, thanks for sharing :)

  8. Great brands. Very durable. Durability is key. I used to work for Qantas as a baggage handler so I’ve seen first-hand how your luggage is handled behind the scenes.

    • Thanks Dean – yikes, I can only imagine!!

  9. Victorinox makes great suitcases too :)

    • Thanks for the tip Betsy – I haven’t actually tested out Victorinox before, I’ll have to see if I can get a bag at some point to review :)

  10. American Tourister is actually owned by Samsonite. I like both brands.

    • I didn’t actually know that, it seems like every industry really only has 2 or 3 companies nowadays, and the rest of the competition are sub companies.

  11. We have bags from Eagle Creek – they’re fantastic for rough outdoor travel. Really tough and heavy duty. They’re above mid-range in price, but very practical, so worth every penny.

    • Glad you’ve had a good run with Eagle Creek Kris – I agree, we have a couple of their packing cubes and one or two packs, and they’re a really fabulous brand :)
