British staycations have long conjured ideas of rainy days at family-friendly resorts with evening entertainment by some guy in a suit, and countless screaming children who are running around a hall.

Unsurprisingly, this is not everyone’s cup of tea, and in a day and age where adventure and excitement is particularly enticing to travellers of all ages, the staycation has always felt like a last resort for the epic summer holiday everyone envisions.

However, with the value of the pound dropping, the idea of adventure holidays in far-off countries can often seem impossible.

Instead of resorting to the idea that you will be spending your summer at the family home, open your mind to the idea that there are countless adventures to be had around the UK.

Glamping

Glamping is becoming extremely popular for explorers in the UK, both young and old(er), who are looking for that little taste of adventure.

This embodies all the ideals of camping, such as getting close to nature and spending days away from the hustle and bustle of cities, but adds a touch of class, if the thought of hard, cold floors does not overtly appeal to everyone in your group.

With countless luxury glamping UK options to choose from, your summer adventure is just one click away! There are many different types of accommodation which fall under the category of “glamping”, some of which we have listed as follows.

Glamping embodies all the ideals of camping but adds a touch of class.

Safari Tents

Popular choices for glamping include the safari tents, boasting private field locations where the kids can jump, run and play! The inside of these luxury glamping options have ample space, comfortable beds and all the luxuries you could possible want (think kitchen areas, showers and private bathrooms).

Quality Unearthed, a luxury glamping provider based in Wales, offers safari tent options in Devon, Wales and Dorset, and all these places are credited for their outstanding natural beauty.

Additionally, these areas all boast a range of beaches where the whole family can learn to surf, or woodlands to explore which have an abundance of native wildlife for you all to spot.

Spend your evenings staring at the clear, star-lit skies of the English countryside while roasting some marshmallows over an open fire. If you’re partial to a song and talented on the old guitar, take to some tunes the whole group knows so everyone can participate in a sing-along. The safari tents are a great option for a family-friendly adventure.

Nightfall Wilderness Camp is a glamping site in a relatively untouched pocket of paradise, perched delicately beside the crystal-clear tumbling headwaters of Christmas Creek and Queensland’s ancient Lamington National Park rainforests.

Cosy Log Cabins

Cosy log cabins nestled in the forests just outside Wales offer a peaceful retreat for couples who are looking for some quality time alone. Ditch your technology and truly connect while staying in one of the beautiful options offered by Quality Unearthed.

Try your hand at chopping some wood for the log fires; take a dip in the bubbly hot tub and spend your days walking through the woods, spotting the countless array of wildlife that inhabits the forest that wraps around the lodge.

Jump in the car to find out why Wales is considered the adventure capital of the UK. From climbing mountains, coasteering, kayaking and zip-lining to name a few, there is plenty of heart-pumping activities to get up to and many ways to make this holiday one to remember!

Log Cabin Wales

Gypsy Wagon

Other alternatives that offer cosy romance include gypsy wagons, available in desirable destinations such as Devon, Dorset, Hereford, Wales and the Peak District.

All these areas offer spectacular walking trails, with the iconic white-washed, Jurassic coast located in Dorset; spectacular sandy beaches in Devon; the renowned mountain ridges and national parks in Wales and the luscious green countryside in the Peak District.

So as you can see, there are fabulous options for unique accommodation, from glamping in safari tents to kicking back in luxury Holiday Cottages like those on holidaycottages.co.uk.

  1. Oh my gosh I want to do all of these! I had never heard of a Gypsy Wagon! I also have always wanted to try glamping in an epic place, the UK seems like the perfect place to do it.

    • I first saw the concept of a Gypsy Wagon a couple of months back on a show about tiny houses – loved the idea! I don’t know if I could live in one full time, I like my space :D, but definitely as accommodation for a couple of days – epic memories right!!

  2. The cosy log cabins look and sounds like a stay option straight out of some adventure and wildlife movie set! I would love my city to have staycation options like these, the ones we find here are just plain resorts ,the usual run-of-the-mill materials. The interior of the safari tents look so plush, they even have a kitchen of their own!

    • Doesn’t it! Something romantic about a cosy log cabin in the woods – definitely something you would see in a film!

If you have the chance to visit the UK, definitely check out some of these options :) Happy travels Tania!

  3. These look so lovely, I’m especially loving the safari tent as we have stayed in this kind of accommodation often on safari in East and Southern Africa and I had no idea it was available here in the UK. I love the look of gypsy wagons but I’m not so keen on lack of bathroom!!

    • The Gypsy Wagon option is definitely rustic :D But I’m a big fan of the safari tents too – we have a lot of them scattered throughout remote Australia, and it’s an incredible way to develop a connection with nature while not having to give up your creature comforts :)

  4. How does a person even begin to choose between these?! I’m planning on being in the UK for 3-6 weeks next year and I’m definitely going to have to check these out! This is totally being pinned so I don’t forget! I think Safari Tent is going to be the way to go!

    • I know right!! You’ll just have to slowly work your way through them all :D

If you’ve got 3-6 weeks in the UK, you’ve definitely got time to plan some great trips in unique accommodation. The safari tent is my favorite way to go too :)

  5. A someone who refused to even buy a decent tent, instead suffering through cold soggy nights, I think I’ve reached the point where I’m ready to go “glamping.” More and more I want space to relax and a proper bed! These sound like great options.

    • Glamping is awesome for keeping that intimate connection with nature but not having to sacrifice on creature comforts, and sleep in a real bed! I used to love camping, though ever since I’ve started staying in safari tents, and other unique forms of glamping, I can’t go back!!

  6. All of these look like a lot of fun, but I am a sucker for log cabins. I would love to spend a few weeks roughing it in the UK.

    • Log cabins are so romantic!! Have an amazing time in the UK!

  7. I had no idea that glamping was a thing in the UK. It’s very popular here, particularly up and down the California coastline. I haven’t signed up for the tents yet, but we have sampled the cabins — I’d love to give that a shot in the UK, too. It seems so cozy!

    • Absolutely! It’s becoming really popular throughout the UK too – I know in America it’s well and truly a craze!

  8. Ooh I’d love to try all of these! I recently went “glamping” for the first time in Jordan and I MUCH preferred it to ordinary camping. I think I’m more of a diva than I thought, ha! I had no idea it was a popular thing to do in the UK so thanks for sharing!

    • Haha you’re not a diva for prefering glamping to camping – I’m right there with you and I used to LOVE camping. Can’t do it any more lol!

  9. I think if I lived in the UK I would never leave. There seems to be countless adventurous ways to spend the days there and so many exciting places to go visit. Than you for providing such great alternatives for UK travel

    • I know right!! Glad we could provide a couple of adventurous ideas for your next trip to the UK :)

  10. Glamping is definitely on our radar and something we’d love to do this year! The safari tents sounds like a fantastic choice to be close to nature while enjoying some luxurious comfort!

    • Awesome Cat! You’ll love glamping – it’s such an awesome way to be close to nature, and as you said, without sacrificing on your comfort :)

Let us know what you think of your first experience!

  11. For alternative, I generally go with AirBnb. Staying in a spare room in someone’s house is such a good way to save money when traveling. It’s often like $20-40 a night-far cheaper and also more comfortable than a hostel or hotel.

    • Absolutely Kim, thanks for the tip! Glad to hear you’ve had great experiences with Airbnb :)
