There’s nothing better than traveling to an exotic destination with your significant other. And Phuket easily takes out the title of best destination for honeymooners and couples. Branded the ‘pearl of the Andaman’ for its spectacular scenery, stunning tropical sunsets, and warm blue sea, this holiday island has plenty to offer couples, and there are many romantic activities to fill your days.

Ultimately though, it’s the island’s affinity for luxury that makes it stand out as a romantic retreat. Between swanky spa sessions, high end dining, and silky soft white palm-lined beaches, the hospitality in Phuket is outstanding, and couples may just forget to leave.

Whether it’s world class diving in the Andaman Sea, or an exhilarating speedboat to the surrounding islands, the following are 5 ways you can achieve a romantic vacation in Phuket.

5 Tips for a Romantic Vacation in Phuket

Romantic Dinner Overlooking the Sea

There are plenty of romantic restaurants in Phuket, with beautiful views over the Andaman Sea. Whether you’re craving Thai, Italian, or fresh seafood, the choice of cuisine is varied, and at some venues you’ll find additions like popular bars, giant chess boards, and infinity pools overlooking the sea.

Da Maurizio is a popular Italian restaurant at Kalim Beach. Have dinner over the beach while the sun sets, and enjoy a cocktail while ordering from the many appetizing dishes on the menu. The menu is expensive, but definitely worth the splurge.

360 Phuket Pavilions is another favorite on Layan Beach which serves wonderful Thai and European cuisine. Once again, the price tag is high, but guarantees a memorable and romantic dining experience.

Couples Spa

For couples who enjoy being pampered, Phuket is the ideal place to be. The spas here are geared towards couples, and you can choose to indulge in everything from traditional Thai massage, to a foot massage, fish massage, scrub, or aromatherapy. You can even share a milk bath together if you want to!

Beach massages are fun and easy, and are so cheap you could have one every day (between 300 – 400 baht which equates to around $20 an hour). Think an open air set-up in the hands of a good masseuse while listening to waves crash against the shore with a gentle breeze. For a really good massage, go to one of elderly ladies, not the pretty young ones!

Fish massage is a unique and memorable experience – dipping your feet in an aquarium full of little suckers who bite the dead skin off your feet!

Stay at MAI HOUSE Patong Hill

Phuket has a reputation for luxury accommodation and outstanding hospitality, and your time at the hotel is time to reconnect with your loved one.

Set to open on December 15 2016, MAI HOUSE Patong Hill is going to be the most fought after luxury accommodation on Phuket, perfect for a romantic stay. It combines privacy with a fabulous location close to entertainment and night life. Add an adult-only pool and a great spa – you really don’t have to leave the hotel at all!

Perfect for the adventurous couple, the hotel encourages you to unplug from the daily routine and slip away into adventure and exploration. Whether ATV off-road action and zip lining from the treetops is what you’re after, or you’re more geared towards cuddling up with a tropical cocktail on the rooftop deck, MAI HOUSE is the type of accommodation that makes it their mission to help you get back to “us”.

Sunset Stroll

Tropical sunsets in Phuket are beyond stunning, and there’s nothing more romantic than taking a sunset stroll hand in hand. Karon Viewpoint is one of the most picturesque when the sun sets, and is the most visited peak in Phuket for the view over surrounding beaches and the sparkling Andaman Sea.

Promthep Cape is another popular sunset spot. On the most southern tip of Phuket this is a rocky headland which juts into the sea, with spectacular views of the ocean and the nearby Nai Harn Bay. Take a stroll up the winding road to the lighthouse and the view will take your breath away.

Share a Kiss on a Deserted Island

Just as romantic, take a speed boat, ferry, or Phi Phi Island Tours out to the stunning Phi Phi islands where you can enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving and an underwater kiss!

It’s here where you’ll find Maya Bay, where Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the 2000 film “The Beach”. And if excited by island hopping you can also take in Phang Nga Bay.

This is one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders, and renting a two person canoe you can lie down together while a guide gently paddles past giant cliffs, and through caves and fantastic lagoons. The scenery here is similar to the famous Halong Bay in Vietnam. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful parts of Thailand.

BONUS: Tie the Knot in a Thai Wedding!

If you’re looking for a memorable end to your romantic vacation, why not tie the knot in a Thai wedding?!

It’s fairly straight forward to organize, and doesn’t require a lot of preparation; your hotel can arrange the ceremony for you. It can be anything from a simple ceremony with monks to a full scale wedding party with dinner by the sea, and a live band.

  1. Now, I need to grab a partner hahaha. I was able to visit Phuket years ago, I think its about time to pay another visit to see the changes.

    • Could equally be just as fantastic to share these experiences with a plutonic friend :) I love heading back and seeing how destinations change over time from how I remember them too :)

  2. Great tips. Mai House Patong Hill sounds like the place to stay. ROFL, and I’m with you, the older ladies give better massages. :) Interesting tidbit about getting married in Phuket and that it’s relatively hassle-free compared to getting married in other parts of the world.

    • Thanks Deb! Older ladies ALWAYS give better massages lol they’ve got the magic touch!!

  3. Beautifully written and useful. We are going to Phuket in less than a month and massage is definitely on the table (sorry, had to do it). Jenn has been a therapist at many 5 star resorts, include the lead therapist at Ritz Carlton. She is also trained and licensed in Thai massage. We are excited to experience this in country. We are also looking forward to some good old fashion romance after all the stress and hectic times during our first year of blogging.

    • Thanks Ed! Haha good pun :D I’m sure you’ll both love Thailand, really is a fantastic place to rejuvenate and relax – congrats on your first year of blogging! Happy travels :)

  4. Brings back some great memories, my wife and I were in Phuket before we had our son. I would highly recommend a couples massage, they are great. Phang Nga Bay sounds awesome we didn’t get there the last time we were there but it will be one the first places we check out the next time we get to Phuket

    • Glad you enjoyed your time in Phuket Rob! Hopefully you can take in Phang Nga Bay on the return trip … perhaps a family vacation this time :)

  5. Phuket is a destination I have wanted to visit for years. The Phi Phi islands with the boats and the rock needle would be a photographer’s paradise. Going to the island then coming back for a massage and fish pedicure would make a perfect day in my book! :)

    • I hope you have the chance to visit soon Nancy :) The Phi Phi islands really do make for some spectacular photography, and there’s no better end to the day than with a cheap but amazing massage :D!

  6. i can’t believe we never went to Phuket for a romantic trip. My second half went many times for training camps, but me I haven’t step foot there yet!!

    • The beaches are a reason to visit Phuket in itself :D

  8. Thailand is such an amazing country! I loved my visit last year and would love to go back. Enjoying a spa with someone would especially be nice!

    • Agreed! Hope you have the chance to return soon Vicky :)

  9. Sounds simply romantic <3 The photo of Phang Nga Bay looks especially attractive, I've seen The Beach which was a little intense but never been there, got to check it out sometime.

    • I agree – The Beach was a bit of an intense film – seems to have quite the cult following though! Phang Nga Bay is a stunning destination – hope you have the chance to make it to Thailand soon :)

  10. Phuket is perfect for couples!
We have been there a few times, and every trip we find a new restaurant to try, a secluded beach to enjoy, and a heavenly spa to relax… If you get away from the busy beaches is such a romantic island. Great recommendations!
    Chers,
    Nat
