You’ve travelled the globe, stared in awe at the Grand Canyon and trekked up the Spanish Steps – but there’s one city that means more to you than any grand monument.

It’s London, the British capital with a thousand things to do. The cultural heartland of the UK, this gargantuan, bustling city is jam-packed with a seemingly endless array of hotspots, whether you want a major tourist landmark, an underground cinema, or to head out to catch a glimpse of the famous Banksy London street art.

To help you find the hippest haunts, we’ve trawled London’s streets and found some amazing locations. So, in association with Stansted’s airport meet and greet, read on to find a few magical places in this teeming city.

Prince Charles Cinema

The Prince Charles Cinema is one of the quirkiest cinemas in London, regularly playing host to obscure film evenings, idiosyncratic events and the kind of listings that will make even the most cynical cineaste weep with joy.

Central London’s only independent cinema, the Prince Charles has become renowned for its theme nights. Want to watch the famously awful The Room in the same cinema as its director? You can at the Prince Charles. Want to see Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master in its intended 70mm format? You can at the Prince Charles.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg. Fancy dress evenings, cinematic singalongs and many more events are hosted every week – so give their site a look.

Lavatory Cocktails

London’s public toilets have been closing at a rapid rate, but the space hasn’t been wasted. Now these former lavatories are being transformed into restaurants and bars that are high on every socialites’ must-see list.

Kickstarting the trend was the Bermondsey Arts Club on Tower Bridge Road. Run by an art school graduate, this former lavvy now looks like an art deco paradise, replete with fine cocktails and great music.

Perfect Supper

Supper clubs offer a little bit of late-night dining luxury for any London night owls – and there’s plenty scattered around the capital.

The Underground Supper Club in Walthamstow is the most prominent of these, featuring amazing food and a wild, sociable atmosphere.

Situated within a decommissioned tube carriage, your meals are prepared by a Cordon Bleu-trained chef who rustles up some of the most mouth-watering food in the capital.

You’ll eat at a long banquet table amidst strangers and friends. Make conversation with strangers and, most of all, enjoy your finely cooked meal.

Classic London Meals

If you’re not interested in gastropubs or quirky restaurants, why not vie for a classic slice of London grub? The city is teeming with pie and mash shops, although our favourite is M. Manze, which provides the freshest ingredients at a reasonable price.

That’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the myriad places to visit in London. Where would you suggest?

  1. Interesting list – I don’t think I could bring myself to eat anywhere that was once a bathroom.

    • Definitely makes for an interesting experience though, and a story to tell once you return home!!! Perhaps you could start with the underground dining experience on the old trains instead :)
