Mauritius

Beach Island RF

Tropical luxury on an island loaded with fascinating historic sights, cultural diversity and luscious landscapes, Mauritius is truly a slice of paradise, and one of the most perfect destinations you could choose for your honeymoon.

Surrounded by a dazzling turquoise sea, Mauritius boasts powdery white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, perfect for those wanting to truly escape.

Though it’s difficult to become bored with the tranquil oasis that is the sun, sand and sea, those able to tear themselves away from their luxurious honeymoon suite are in for a treat, because there is so much more to experience.

Between unique water sports, the fascinating blend of varied cultures, and spectacular jungle hiking, Mauritius honeymoon ideas are not hard to come by – there is so much for a newlywed couple to do!

Waves gently lapping and torches which glow as you enjoy the tropical evening with a clifftop stroll overlooking the water.

Maui, Hawaii.

Stunning black sand beaches, crystal water lapping against a rustic coastline and remnants of lava from the last volcanic eruption, Hawaii is an iconic honeymoon destination!

Australia

Australia is a fantastic choice of honeymoon destination for all couples, as the country is so diverse there truly is something for absolutely everyone!

From coastal landscapes and lush forests of Northern Australia, to the soft hills of the Southern regions, to the red rugged Outback plains of the inland, and the exciting cosmopolitan cities of the East, Australia’s varied and vast landscapes offers so many options for newlywed couples.

Climbing the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

The biggest problem you will face is deciding where to begin!

Seychelles

The islands of the Seychelles are quite simply the most romantic location imaginable, perfect for a romantic Seychelles honeymoon or wedding anniversary. Each island features hotels and resorts to suit all budgets and amazing honeymoon offers & packages.

Larger resorts on Mahé Island are great for the more active; the secluded tropical islands offer idyllic hideaways; while the hidden coves of Praslin and La Digue are perfect for romantics seeking peace and a little more privacy. Already married? Use going on a holiday to the Seychelles as an excuse for a second honeymoon!

Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) is one of the most fascinating destinations in the world. Full of extraordinary nature, wildlife and awe inspiring views, spend your honeymoon strolling secluded beaches or lazing in the sun while exotic marine life swim below the surface of the dazzling waters.

This is a honeymoon you won’t quickly forget!

  1. Great to see a list of honeymoon destinations that doesn’t include Paris! Well done just for that.

Planning our honeymoon was by far the greatest aspect of getting married. In fact, I think I may have annoyed my now wife by completely disregarding the big day itself in place of constant travel ideas.

In the end we spent 2 weeks disco ring southern Italy and eating as much amazing fresh produce as possible.

Slightly cliched but Puglia in particular was devoid of tourist hordes even in August!

    Great list.

    • Thanks Tommo! Paris is incredibly overrated in my humble opinion!! And surely your wife wouldn’t have been annoyed that you were throwing all of your energy into making the most important part of the wedding celebrations count :D! After-all the wedding is just the formality – it’s the honeymoon where you’re marriage really starts!!

Southern Italy sounds spectacular – maybe you can start planning for a second honeymoon at one of the above destinations someday soon :)

      All the best!

  2. Megan you are right, there seem to be a lot of great destinations for honeymoons and your list is the best proof for it. Luckily people do get divorced more than ever in this now-so-accessible world and a lot of wedding-happy couples gets to choose more than one honeymoon location in their lifetime. So the trouble is not anymore which destination to pick, but rather the order… ;)

    • LOL your comment made me laugh so much!! Sad though I guess very true!! Maybe that’s an idea for a second post … fabulous destinations for your second honeymoon :D!

    • You should totally do that Megan! I think that might be the new trend anyway and you could be seriously ahead of the game with this… ;)

  3. Love to see Australia on this list! I have quite a few friends that are planning a trip to Australia for their honeymoon. I applaud them! Such a great idea, and in my mind a lot better than spending a week in an all inclusive resort somewhere in the Caribbean.

Curious to know where you went for your honeymoon?

    • Australia is a great spot for a honeymoon indeed!

We had our destination wedding in Hawaii so we didn’t really end up taking a honeymoon actually! Figured the week before the wedding in hawaii was honeymoon enough :D! We did a bit of a road trip through the US afterwards but then just put the rest of the money towards future travels :D

  4. Ahh, I’ve always wanted to go to Mauritius! …and Seychelles, and the Galapagos! Haha, so I think you made a great list! Seychelles is actually just a few feet above sea level, so if sea levels keep rising this place is at a real threat of going under…just more reason to get there sooner than later! Thanks for sharing :)

    • Glad you enjoyed the list Megan, I hope you manage to hit up a few of these fab destinations soon! I actually had no idea that Seychelles was so under threat :S! Maybe make that first on your list then!!
