Plan a Seaside Galveston Getaway for Less

Galveston welcomes nearly 6,000,000 tourists every year, and most of them want to spend time near the shore.

A seaside vacation may be pricey, but careful planning can help you enjoy this Texan city on a budget. You will not have to miss seeing the best attractions at Galveston due to their cost.

Book a Budget-Friendly Hotel Early

Many Galveston hotels by the beach are expensive, so the ones that buck the trend are popular among frugal travelers.

Some of the cheapest beachfront hotels in Galveston include La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston Seawall West, Holiday Inn Galveston – On the Beach, and Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Galveston West – Seawall.

To avoid disappointment, book your hotel roomton-Seawall-West-50 at the start of your planning process. You might also get a bargain if you book from Sundays to Thursdays, and avoid the weekend rush.

Organize a Texas Fishing License

Keen anglers will need a Texas fishing license to fish in Galveston for free. If you don’t have cooking facilities in your hotel room, don’t worry. Many local restaurants will happily turn your catch into a tasty dish.

Get a Galveston Island Pass

A Galveston Island Pass is a great way to see Galveston’s most popular attractions for less. Select four or more participating attractions and you’ll save 40 percent off the regular price of admission!

You could visit the Galveston Railroad Museum, check out the Moody Gardens Aquarium Pyramid, or have fun on Galveston Bay with an Artist Boat Kayak Tour. Keep in mind when you’re booking that the pass is valid for 30 days after purchase.

Plan Your Itinerary

The attractions covered by your island pass will help you pass time in Galveston, but there’s plenty more in Galveston to keep you amused. Researching the city’s attractions will ensure you don’t miss the budget-friendly sites that interest you.

Visiting ScoreBig can show you concerts and events near Galveston, and help you save on the tickets. The site offers tickets at up to 60 percent less than the box office prices.

Dolphin cruises may be expensive, but not in Galveston. You can often see these marine mammals swimming by the Bolivar Ferry. The free ride takes 20 minutes, and is a wonderful way to pass the time.

You’ll get change from a tenner when visiting Pirates! Legends of the Gulf Coast, the Texas Seaport Museum, and the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. If those entry fees are adding up, plan a visit to the free Rosenberg Library Museum.

You can also make your vacation sweeter with a visit to La King’s Confectionery. It might seem like an ordinary candy store, but the free saltwater taffy-making demonstrations during the peak tourism season will delight the kids.

Pack Your Beach Gear

If you forget your beach gear, you’ll miss the most affordable and popular attraction in Galveston. You can spend days playing in the waves, playing beach volleyball, and lazing on the sands of Seawall Beach without spending a cent.
