The Best Prague Attractions to Enjoy

 

Prague lies at the heart of the Czech Republic and is the country’s capital and largest city. Located on the banks of the Vltava River, it boasts a history that dates back more than one thousand years and it is a popular European destination for weekend breaks and longer vacations.

Prague Castle

 

One of the landmark sights of the city is Prague Castle, with this impressive fortress complex having been the seat of power for many of Prague’s rulers over the years.

It now operates as the official residence of the Czech Republic’s president although is open to tourists. Visit at midday to see the ceremonial changing of the guard or take a guided tour of the palace to see some historic sights.

Charles Bridge

The daily entertainment of street artists and musicians on the Charles Bridge is free for anyone to enjoy. This historic bridge crossing the Vltava River was constructed in the 14th century and is one of the highlights of Prague.

There are statues lining either side of the bridge depicting famous citizens over the years, and a stroll across the bridge provides the chance to enjoy some nice views of Prague Castle and the area around it.

Old Town Square

Many of Prague’s top attractions are located around Old Town Square, so it’s a place worth visiting.

One of the famous sights is the Astronomical Clock, which dates back to medieval times and is one of the oldest clocks in the world.

Other things to see while there include the gothic architecture of the Tyn Church and the artworks on display in the Kinsky Palace.

Petrin Lookout Tower

This is Prague’s little Eiffel Tower, with the steel structure bearing a striking resemblance to the famous Paris monument. It was constructed in the 1890s and has been a landmark sight in the city ever since.

Located at the summit of Petrin Hill, there are 299 steps to climb to reach the top and this is worth doing for the views out over the surrounding city.

While it might not be as well known as the other major European capitals, Prague is definitely worth considering for a vacation.
